American News Anchors are supporting Bush's war 'cause they're old
I wonder if the reason the American media is so pro-Bush at this particular time, has something to do with the fact that most of the major network news anchors or influences are kind of long in the tooth....Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Ted Koppel etc....They are just too comfortable now, and possibly don't want to rock the boat, therefore they go along with what the Bush administration says....I'm just speculating, but I think these old geezers have the overriding influence on how the war is being presented...Some people think Koppel is more daring, but I heard him the other day talking to Al Franken on his radio show and Koppel said "I probably am in agreement that we were right in going to war against Iraq"....This is not an exact quote, but it is the gist of what Koppel said....My point is, it's time for the young people in broadcasting to step forward.....Am I wrong?.....By the way...I'm not a young person. I'm a grandmother of a 17 year old....

1. You are wrong
Dan Rather gave us a peek behimnd the wizards courtain after 9.11
in an interview to the Guardian. He said, and I paraphrase, that
if they even peeped about, they were afraid of being necklaced....

4. I heard Rather interviewed by CBC when the war had just begun
and when asked about his ability to be objective, he said..."I'm an American before I'm a reporter"...Does that tell you anything?

6. Yes, again you know what it is to NECKLACE
anybody?

Also I heard it from a pretty good source... not in the media,

but threats have been issued against many leaders in mamy a community. I mean threats to life and limb... the media is included in this

2. i think it has more to do with white house freeze out
the white house monitors the media and pressures the media to conform to its wishes. ask the wrong question and no more exclusives. look what they did to helen thomas.

if an anchor were to stray too much from what the white house wants, the next "leak" or "exclusive" goes to a competitor. that threat pretty much has kept them in line.

i think the reason we're seeing at least some semblence of balance now is that people are starting to think kerry might win, so shrub's threats are less meaningful....

what a way to run a country, eh?

3. Anchors
Well Cronkite had no problem effectively saying the Vietnam War was over in February of 1968. Brokaw is leaving at the end of the year to be replaced, I think, by Pretty Boy Brian Williams. Both he and John Siegenthaler are very whorish, and we'll have to contend with them for the next 20 years.

7. From another generation too
My husband and I were talking about this, and I asked

How the hell did we get to this point?

His answer, I fear is correct... 30 years of peace

We ALL grew fat and complacent. The flower children grew
into yuppies and the kids (I know some who care) have never
faced things like a draft or war...

8. Cronkite also saw war firsthand.
Was a war correspondent at one point. Flew in a B-17 on a mission once, and I KNOW that was not the only action he saw.

16. So was Rather
Wilson said that news people had told him they were threatened about speaking out. I seriously think it evolved from being 'froze out' (Helen still manages to get questions asked) to fired to sent to Cuba. I am waiting for the dike to break and them all to speak out.

9. Which was why he was "the most trusted man in America."
When he said, "And that's the way it is," you could believe it.

15. I would agree with unblock, that the White(Wash)house has great

control over the media. However, I also believe it's a lot more sinister then BFEE media persuasion. What we have today is BFEE media dictation. Any deviation from the official White(wash)house line is met with Mafia style tactic. Tonight, I sight 2 examples that occurred in the past few hours:

1, Joe Wilson on CNN's Lou Dobbs. Joe clearly stated how this administration has kicked down and punished those who try to write about the WHITEHOUSE CRIMES committed against his wife and himself.
(My CNN disclaimer- Lou Dobbs is the only respectable show on CNN)

2, Keith Olbermann of MSNBC's COUNTDOWN. Keith proved to the world tonight that the White(wash)house does manipulate the flow of media traffic. He pulled their talking points and waved them in the camera, stating that the Whitehouse contacted his show on three separate occasions demanding that he, Olbermann whore their puke spin questions to Wilson. Olbermann, agreeing with Wilson proclaimed that it was a White(wash)house talking points smear attempt. It was the most bold display of independent journalism I have seen since these BFEE dictators stole office.

On media balanced of Kerry... Does not exist. The Media is not even Close. They have smeared him on every irrelevant stupid stuff topic the BFEE pushes out like his SUV comments etc, while they give Bush a free pass on every lie about EVERYTHING, from AWOL to Enron and get away with it every time.

The corporate giants that own the media, like GE, like Time/Warner Like fascist Conservative Rupert Murdock (FOX NEWS), are deeply rooted social Darwinists that care nothing for no one but their control and power. That is the real root of the problem. PBS is public, gets money you and me and... the government, yet they are also much more balanced (But do hide the truth) than the corporate media whores.

The way to fix it is a long term goal. In progress of course.
