"With the tax cuts, we could afford a washer and dryer."
Edited on Mon May-03-04 09:46 PM by khephra
Isn't that pathetic? It was a comment made by one of the plants at one of Bush's stops today. (just on CNN)

I'm on that level of need too, but to think that's all you've gotten while other have had hundreds, nay, millions given away to them and taken out of programs for our future--all of our futures.

A washer and dryer. That's what you can expect out of the next 4 years...if you're lucky.

1. After the layoffs...
They have plenty of time to catch up on their laundry.

Help the people, my brother.

2. It's a *very* expensive loan
How many years will it take to pay back what the tax cuts are doing to the national debt, and at what cost in interest?

Some people are so short-sighted! I wish the general public could be at the Chimp's events.

3. I've been asking everybody I talk to about their tax cut.
As in, was it as much as you expected.

So far, 100% say they paid more this year than last.

8. I've been asking the same thing and got the same response!
After I did my taxes this year, and didn't notice any cut I started asking the same question as you. So far noone has told me about any lower taxes they found. The one problem I did find is that so many people simply respond, "Oh I don't know, as long as I don't have to pay, it's OK."

ARUGHHHHH people with that attitude really aggrivate me!!

4. Bush: "and somebody had to make that washer"
Yeah, someone in CHINA! Bush is such an idiot. His tax cuts created jobs for the Chinese.

Thanks for adding that...good quote work!
My head was bleeding from my ears after hearing the "serf" expressing thanks to the Lord of the Realm.

It's funny how we had a surplus under higher taxes, isn't it?

5. Yeah, tax cuts -- MUCH better than a decent paying job
so you could afford to buy a washer and dryer when you need one as a matter of course.

My gawd it's sickening to live in country full of ignorant morons... :P

7. A Sears washer and dryer runs about...
...$395.00 for the pair. A pair of Humvees run about $168,000 which is what the top 5% of the tax payers got back on average and the top 1%, well it's off the charts.

10. That's a washer and dryer
these people may really need (I know I could use them), and may have been able to buy if the government wasn't taking so many taxes out in the first place!

Sorry, I'm very anti-tax. I'm liking the Fair Tax more and more. www.fairtax.org .

I think to belittle regular people who bought a washer and dryer with their tax return is a reach, and almost elitist.

I'm getting my car's a/c fixed (a new condensor, ugh), 2 new tires, and paying off a credit card. Is that pathetic?

13. If it was during one year
But from the way she was talking, it sounded like that's all the further ahead they're at after 3.5 years of Bush being in office.

Believe me, I know where she's coming from. I used to have to live a gypsy lifestyle because we couldn't afford to keep up our bills.

But after seeing so many people and companies profit over the last 3.5 years I have to ask: Is this enough? Should we be happy with two new appliances every Presidential term?

No. I think it's time for another approach.

11. In 1983 only 50 corporations out of billions of people....
Edited on Mon May-03-04 10:02 PM by Dirk39
could afford to publish their opinions.
1990 only 23 corporations could afford publishing their opinions.
2000 only 9 corporations could afford to publish their opinions. 9 corporations out of 6 billion people on this planet can afford to publish their opinion.
And even this story about the family, who can't afford a washer and a dryer was brought to us by these 9 corporations.
If only as many people could afford an opionion as people, who can afford a washer and a dryer.
If only 9 out of 6 billion people could afford a dryer and a washer, a revolution would happen. Let's replace the dryers and washers with Newspapers.

Capitalism sucks,
Hello from Germany,
Dirk

12. Low income earners are grossly overburdened
by the combination of local, State, and Federal taxes. People don't always know the difference, or the economics behind the higher State and Local taxes. But low-income earners DO need tax relief, and a washer and Dryer IS a big deal if you don't have one.

17. In the land of immediate gratification consumerism...
Edited on Mon May-03-04 10:17 PM by BeHereNow
The idiot has failed to look far enough into the future
and comprehend the fact that soon, that she wont be able
to afford the soap, water, electricity or clothes to put
in her new washer and dryer.

I'd say this sums up the average American psyche fairly
accurately...just look at all the "morans' driving monster
trucks that they haven't begun to pay off and can't
afford to put gas in?
But gee, they look so cool sitting in their driveways,
don't they?

BHN

On Edit: Explanation of the term "moran."
This term is taken from a sign painted and displayed
by a Bush war supporter that was shared here
at DU. the moron did not know how to even
spell the word that best described him....
