BBV Activism Idea- Feedback?
What if we were to print out a whole lot of stickers with the following text:

This ATM gives a receipt.
Why don't our voting machines do the same?
For more info visit:
www.blackboxvoting.org
www.verifiedvoting.org
www.truemajority.org

And then carry a few around, and put one on every ATM you use or see??

What do you think? Would you do it?

1. Brilliant. They'd get scraped off pretty quickly, but 100
people would probably see it before it got scraped off. (Oh, and it's probably a crime too, but so is voting fraud.)

You could add to the sticker in small pring: "in fact, Diebold Inc makes cash machines which give receipts, but refuses to make a voting machine with a verifiable, written audit trail."

3. Actually, I'm not sure that's true?
I think that most states just aren't purchasing the ability to print the receipts? Will have to look for more info. In effect, it's an upgrade they chose not to buy?

5. then write this:
"Companies that make cash machines with give receipts also make voting machines with verifiable written audit trails, but your elected officials won't buy them."

And make sure you only sticker ATMs in places where this is the case.

By the way, why don't we have an internet database of all the communities which use bad machines, and which tell us which elected officials are responsible for that decision?

That would really help us focus efforts.

4. I think that is an excellent idea!
Let's put the issue before the public and raise awareness about what is THE issue of this election. I'm going to print mine right now.
Thanks for the idea.

9. Had a similar idea after...
Edited on Mon May-03-04 06:26 PM by yowzayowzayowza
sElection2k, except it was a sticker on vending machines saying something to the effect:

Would you throw away a dollar bill rejected by this machine? Does your ballot deserve less consideration?

10. I'd say, "Why Can't Voting Machines Print a Voter Verified Paper Ballot?
"Receipt"is a term that the opponents of paper get you to use.

Receipt has the connotation of walking away with it, which of course, is not what this is about. This is about depositing a voter verified paper ballot at the polling place, just like any other paper ballot.

If you say receipt, then the opposition gets to argue about vote buying, because someone used the term receipt, which THEY planted in the vernacular.

You gotta quit letting the opposition control the terminology.

Say and use, "Voter verified paper ballot."

And if you must say audit trail, the something like,
"Voter verified paper ballots that also provide an independent audit trail."

An audit trail does not necessarily have to be paper and does not always carry the weight of legality. The next thing you get, is that since the audit trail is not defined as the ballot, the electronic ballot rules.

Nuances and language are everything. Don't let the proponents of paperless voting control that.

13. Voter verified paper ballot that can be used as an audit trail
A paper trail may not rule over the "electronic ballot" and if you don't watch the wording, may not be voter verified, either.

Or,

A paper trail that provides a voter verified paper ballot.

But why not just say, "voter verified paper ballot?"

Or:

Did your vote count?

Got it on paper?
