What made me so sad about the prison photographs is that in an unnecessary
war there was part of me that truly believed that we would act humanely given the choice. That was genuinely naive I know, but I really thought it was true. Also that the world for the most part thought the same way, that we would do the right thing after occupation while at the same time understanding that the stated reasons for the invasion were fabrications.

I know that every part of Bush administration is a humiliation to the United States internationally, but this is the straw that broke the camel's back for most of the world. The deep seated arrogance and hypocrisy of the United States has manifested itself all the way down to the behavior of the rank and file.

Who knows if we can ever earn our credibility back.

1. I wonder if they ever asked the victims any questions.
It looked like they were just doing it for fun.

2. A corrupt government sends soldiers to an unjust war and treats them like
shit. Seriously, what did they expect?

3. If the perpetrators of these atrocities are allowed to go unpunished...
...by the administration, then George W Bush is as guilty as the people who committed these crimes. It's time for change. No more Bush!

6. Even if they are punished
if this goes high enough and can be proven... we are talking of
war crimes.

Bush boy better never take a vacation abroad...

Why do you think some of LBJs people NEVER take a foreign vacation?

17. Its already in his lap.....the President is the CIC....
The Commander in Chimp bears the ultimate responsibility. Of course, smirky never takes responsibility for anything.

I think his only way out is to admit that they stole the election, he isn't up to the job, and he isn't really the president.

5. Really, this was minor
The shock and awe, now that was a big thing. Still, we shall milk this for all we can. The surviving Iraqis will be glad we did, eh?

7. I don't agree with your "minor" tag
From waht I hear this is quite an insult to Muslim's and, as one commentator on NPR said early this morning (early enough I didn't catch his name) this is the most memorable and serious event in US intervention in the Middle East in a decade. This will echo for years.

I do hope, though, that the sruving Iraqi's are affected by this - to the positive.

8. Blowing 100's of people to smithereens is Major
Torturing a few is relatively minor.

Just trying to bring some perspective. Glad to see something pissing off the sheeple. Just surprised shock and awe didn't do the trick.

9. Blowing people to smithereens is major, but everyone knew
that and accepted it as an acceptable cost of invasion. I'm not saying I agree with that perspective, I'm just saying that it is the current state of public opinion. Even world-wide opinion.

On the other hand the political fallout from this will be grave. It offends the religious sensibilities of the Arab world, and it offends the basic sense of decency of the rest of the world. Of coarse it will cost Bush nothing domestically because to America the victims were Godless brown people who aren't fully human. Or as the latest spin goes they should have understood the Americans were just kidding.

It makes my head spin.

11. Don't lump me in with everyone
Shock and awe was the most disgusting thing I ever saw.

* will be -- is hurt by this maladministartion of war. I am not trying to downplay what happened. It is, as * himself said, "not the American way". Why anyone would disagree with that, as so many pukes are, escapes me. This torture should be roundly decried and heads should roll. And they will. Just as heads should roll for shock and awe -- only many many more for that (to me) unacceptable cost of invasion.

It was not my intention.

10. No, it's not minor.
It is major. Every bit as vile as shock and awe. Those responsible should spend a very long time behind bars.

15. Which is the point.
The major foreign policy objective of this administration lately has been to outrage the Arab world. A terror attack must be made certain for Chimp to even be able to pretend he was elected this time. Or if the attack won't carry him they will have good reason to cancel the elections.

16. This is just as insidious as shock and awe...
Actually, I think it's simply a continuation of shock and awe. Just a slightly different form. It's all dehumanization. Just another form of terrorism, as far as I am concerned.

The actions of these guards have struck a chord deep in the heart of every Iraqi citizen. and many, many of them will join the resistance because of it.

18. Good points, all
Torture is un-American. This stain will not easily wash from our hands. None of this fiasco ever will, but it will get better if we GET THE HELL OUT OF IRAQ, asap.

Peace. Bring our troops home. Now.
