RW G Beck and N Boortz furious about torture
They were angry and furious that this was/is going on.

Beck yelled repeatedly at caller who tried to excuse it as part of a 'warrior mentality.'

Boortz tried and tried to explain to caller who didn't see any torture in pictures - the Islamic culture's horror at nudity in public.

Beck said he spent much of Sunday walking up and down just raging. HE said he was angry at the soldiers and their superiors and if it went up to Bush he was furious at W.

Something really strange is happening today in RW land.

The above discussions were occuring in the same time frame this morning.

Both hosts emphasized how the torture and the pictures may result in many US deaths in Iraq - also some implication 'elsewhere'.

1. Sounds like they may be using their brains
Those pictures have ruined over a century of good will built by the United States military doing the right thing. Every U.S. serviceman knew going into combat that there is a chance the enemey will not resort to torture because of the Geneva convention.

The United States can never again enter armed conflict with even that minimal assurance. U.S. servicemen will face torture upon capture guaranteed from now on.

2. It is part of a Warrior Mentality
Edited on Mon May-03-04 12:41 PM by Must_B_Free
A bad one. The efforts came all the way from Rumsfeld, only they called it a "Warrior Ethos"

4. that is heartening, really it is, but will their followers buy it?
These RW talk show hosts have whipped their followers up into such a hateful rage and fury, they won't see the torture...in fact, many of them probably liked it....

5. Even Drudge last night acknowleged the torture
He even contrasted that with *'s radio message this week that "there are no polical jails, no torture chambers....". Played it over and over.

Knowing Boor(tz) from the local RW programming channel, and having listened to Beck a time or two, I wouldn't be a bit surprise if what they were really mad about was that these a*holes got caught. Neither of these guys has a sincere/compassionate bone in his body

18. Exactly and the fact that their little war may be shed in a bad light now.
They don't really give a shit about any Arabs. What they care about is this might cost them some support for their war and that really pisses them off. It will indeed do just that no matter how they try and spin things. Especially through-out the world. There are many in America that could care less about right and wrong only Republicans. If the Republicans are for it so are they in impressive lock0step.

7. While listening to Peter Werbe last night
he made the same point on the radio, that I knew

Those photos are the photos that will loose the war.

Many in RW land realize this. Many also realize it is time
to bail from this sinking ship. And a few actually do have morals

Who knows? Beck and Boortz may even have those.

Now I will have to go to AOL and ask our resident Boortz fan why
she does not agree with Neil.

Oh and both are correct. These photos will cost American (and Iraqi)
lifes. No doubt in my mind

That is why those responsible, and I mean ALL (yes even the Mercs) need to be held accountable in a very open, and with cameras present, (and translators for Arab) and every arab network present as well, network. This is the only way to somewhat blunt this... a very open General Court Martial

8. I think I know why they're suddenly outraged.
I've heard of various right-wingers outraged at these pics and I've been wondering...why do they suddenly give a fuck? I mean, there's thousands of innocent civilians dead, why would they care so much about these prisoners, who might have had a hand in the chaos over there after all? Then I realized: there's this weird sexual element to it that they might find more disgusting than all the civilian casualties.

9. I heard Beck this morning.
He completely went off on one caller who described himself as an "honorable Navy veteran" who tried to justify it as a way to gather intelligence. Beck kept getting madder and madder. Then came the amazing part...
(transcribed from memory)

Caller: The Iraqis opened up a can of worms when they flew a 747 (sic) into a...

Beck: The Iraqi people...

Caller: They brought it on themselves...

Beck: Alright, look...the Iraqi people had nothing to do with 9/11...I don't believe this, I'm on the other side here...the Iraqi people had nothing to do with 9/11...Saddam Hussein, as far as we know, had nothing to do with 9/11! We went into Iraq because we thought they had weapons of mass destruction and we thought they were in bed with terrorists! We know that's not true now so all we can do for these people is try and show them that Americans are decent and just, and when we do something like this it just gives them more reasons to hate us!

Caller: It's weak people like you who...

Beck: WEAK?! I'm taking you off-air right now because I want you to give me your name and address...I want you to put your uniform on because I'm coming to your house and I'm going to spit in your face!!

COMMERCIAL BREAK

It was a lovely thing...Beck told all his listeners on the air that neither Saddam nor the Iraqi people had anything to do with 9/11, that we went to war over nothing but a suspicion, and all we're trying to do now is justify our presence there.

However, I did hear Boortz try to trash Kerry during his tirade.

16. Well some habits are hard to break
next thing we know, Boorz will VOTE for Kerry and even join the campaign

Yep said it with a straight face.

Fact is, he is a Winger because that is where the money is. When he realizes that the money is on hte other side... so taking baby steps.

In that sense Rhandi Rhodes was correct when she said that many of these boys work for whom they work because that is where the money is. They are mercenaries of the pen and loyal to the mightly dollar

That said, I am happy that they are criticizing... the disonance will be something to behold.

but it's probably just lip service...I still think Bush, and all the other right-wingers secretly enjoyed those pics.
