The Norm Coleman Quote of the week
and the subject of my weekly email to the weasel.

I was listening to Minnesota Public Radio today. They were doing a story about the 2nd Minnesotan to be killed in Iraq and had an audio clip from the Senator from Bushco commenting on it. Fortunately, the quote is also out on their website so I was able to copy it hear for your enjoyment.

http://news.mpr.org/headlines/#2

<snip>
U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., says his heart goes out to Hellerman's family. Coleman says every death is a great tragedy but that the numbers need to be considered in context.

"It hasn't been massive casualities. This is not Vietnam. We lost 3,000 people in one day in the World Trade Center. We lost hundreds in a bombing in Bali," Coleman said. "The fact is - we are still engaged in a war, there's no question about that and it's an ongoing war and it's a war against terrorism. We have made great gains. There are more killings in Washington, DC than there are in Iraq."
<end quote>

In my email to Normie, I copied his quote and added:

I'm sure it comes as a great comfort to those who have had a loved one killed or maimed as a result of Bush's lies to know there are more killings in D.C.

What really amazes me is that anyone who has their lips so firmly attached to Bush's butt can open their mouth wide enough to make such a stupid and insensitive comment.

2. appalling
I am shocked, appalled and horrified that Coleman said such a thing. Can he not for one second understand that when a family member dies in a war there is no time for propagandizing? He took this opportunity to try to get in a couple points and frame this disgraceful situation in a way that makes bushco look less evil. I am sickened and disgusted and intend to write a letter to your major daily about this.

3. Norm Coleman can rot in Hell
This is the same guy who said he was 99% better (as a politican) than Paul Wellstone. Fuck Norm Coleman.

4. Since when is Normie such an internationalist? (sarcasm)
We lost hundreds in a bombing in Bali," Coleman said.

Only correct if by "we", the slimy one means "Australians", who constituted the overwhelming majority of the Bali victims (as they do of Bali tourists generally).

This is not, obviously, to say that they are somehow less dead because they were Aussies, simply to point out that Coleman needs to "be sure brain is engaged (and installed!) before putting mouth in gear". Then again, we're talking about someone who bragged that he "changed his hairstyle and his party affiliation" within a few years' time... perhaps the ultimate triumph of style over substance. :(

5. He is an insensitive bastard!
3000 US deaths does not justify one Iraqi death caused by our sloppy regime. There's only been propaganda to show Saddam had any involvement, no facts - or the last I heard, and the last I heard, Saddam and Osama hated each others' guts...

That aside, thousands of Iraqi have been injured (or murdered) due to Bush*'s vengeance. This is NOT part of the ostensible "war on terrorism", nor can it spun to be.

Normie wants to think that any deaths or maimings of innocent non-Americans is tolerable. :eyes:

10. How does Norman know how many people are killed every day in Baghdad?
Because Donald Rumsfeld told John Lott told some Washington Times editorial guy told..... Which at the end of the day is just another a slur on Washington D.C. perpetrated by the gun crowd. If they cared so much about the Constitution as they say they do they would fight to give D.C. statehood. But we all know that gun rights arguments are just a code war about race anyhow.

I wish I hadn't opened your link - I will see those images in my sleep tonight. But I wish I'd had it before I sent the weasel the email. C'mon fellow Minnesotans (and non-Minnesotans) I can't be the only one harassing the guy - someone send this to him.

Here's the link to Normie's website http://www.coleman.senate.gov
From there you can hit the "contact" button and send him an email.

11. Nice catch dflprincess
God, I listen to MPR all day, but am glad I missed that quote. Norm is a huge waste of protoplasm. Wish he would serve the citizens of this state (and support them in their grief at the very least) instead of dancing to the puppet strings of his master Karl Rove.
