6. The Africans are entitled to their opinions.
Maybe they're feeling a bit used. That tends to make people cranky.

8. no.. we're trying to help US with their AIDS problem
Colin Powell, Al GOre and other leading statesmen have pointed to the national security problems of this pandemic. The AIDS thing didn't happen overnight, and now he's finally going to Africa after saying they were the lowest priority in foreign policy as a candidate.

This is about trying to win African American support at home. It is about winning AIDS activist support. It has nothing to do with his compassion for the people.

He doesn't even want them to hand out condoms "cuz it might lead to fornication and GOd told me that's wrong".

He hasn't even forgiven them their debts. He won't leg go of US subsidies so we can buy their grain, etc.

9. Actually, they ARE being used...
Greg Palast did a story on the subject. For one thing the money being "offered" is not new money, it is recycle money for AIDS pledged by the Clinton administration. It is also an interest bearing loan that will not be forgivable. It is only being offered to prop up US drug manufacturers like Eli Lilly and Bristol-Meyers to prohibit African nations from getting cheaper drugs from nations like Argentina. Then in turn, our FTC sent a letter to Argentina threatening trade sanctions against them if they offered AIDS drugs to African countries at a reduced rate. Still think chimpy is doing this out of the kindness of his Christian heart? I don't!

10. He is exploiting their misery
in order to look like a Compassionate Conservative at home. I would call that using them, but maybe it's just me.

13. Please note this:
Bush has made no formal request to Congress for appropriations for this program. Mentioning it during the SOTU speech does not count.

Nor is there any indication on how quickly Congress could pass such an appropriation - presumably after Santorum, Brownback, Tom DeLay and Pat Robertson have summoned their frothingly righteous allies to the Hill to hog-tie it with abstinence rules, contraception rules, copyright and trademark rules and whatever else makes their hearts go pitty-pat.

Heaven knows there's nothing wrong with the idea - the industrialized world's been standing around watching Africa burn with AIDS for the last ten years. It's just that Bush is not bloody likely to break a sweat in his rush to the scene of the inferno with his $15 billion bucket of non-forgiveable loans.

11. Why those ungrateful, cynical Africans!
Don't they appreciate that Our President loves them just as He loves us? I just don't understand what's wrong with these people.

Maybe it's all that AIDS and poverty 'n' stuff. It probably affects their brains. They can't see Him the way we do.
