Judge Roy Moore...the rest of the story
I posted a few days ago that he lost his appeal to the Judicial Inquiry Commission, but I couldn't tell you how I knew. Now I can.

One of the judges on the commission is a friend. I see him regularly. I won't identify him, but if you knew where I live and knew him you could figure it out...if you cared.

A couple of weeks ago I asked him if they had reached a decision yet.
"Nope, still deliberating. You know I can't talk about that. There's just one thing I have a problem with. It's an elected office, and if we deny his appeal, we're basically overturning an election."

Crap. I want Moore out, for good, almost as much as I want Bush* et al out. This doesn't sound good.

A few days ago I ran into him again.
"Any decision?"
He grinned. "Yes, but I can't tell you yet. It'll be announced in a few days."

Friday, my doorbell rang. It was the judge.
"Here, I wanted you to have this." It was a copy of the 35 page decision denying Moore's appeal.
"Don't tell anybody. They won't announce it until tomorrow."

It was an especially interesting document in that my friend had written a special, two page, personal concurrence, the only justice to do so.
In it, he refuted Moore's actions USING BIBLE VERSES!
Right back atcha, Roy.
The judge is my kinda guy.

9. What Party
I saw mention of the Constitution party on that page. Is that the party you think Moore would run under?

8. I've heard that Good Ol' Roy
is planning on running for the Alabama governorship, unfortunately he might actually win that one.

12. Not necessarily.
Roy is a very polarizing figure in Alabama. Though the fundies are very devoted to him, he is not universally loved.

It might actually be a good thing if he runs. A Moore campaign would definitely rally Alabama's Democrats, and it would be a very strong wakeup call for sane Republicans, of whom there are a few, if only a few, in the state.

5. It would be very ironic if Moore ran for President
One of Bush's core groups is the Christian right. If Moore ran, a percentage of that base would defect and maybe hurt Bush more than Nader hurt Gore.

It would be ironic if both Bushes lost due to a third party candidate. Perot cost Bush 41 a second term and Moore could cost Bush 43 a second term.

6. Perot
Actually polls in 92 showed Perot pulled almost as many votes from Clinton as he did from Bush.

7. No one who would vote for Kerry would vote for Moore
Plain and simple. trof and I happen to live in the same state, and I can guarantee you that the country club/fundie divide in the repub party is real and could be serious. A Roy Moore candidacy is like the re-birth of Strom Thurmond, I hope it gets plenty of press.

Yeah, Alabama has gone down the tubes politically, particularly since '94, so has TN and GA. I have spent alot of time in all three (GA's my wife's home state) and its really a sad commentary on the South in general when these jokers are in power. I'm in Gadsden.
