2. Incumbent presidents don't win close elections
The last one to do so was Truman. Incumbents usually either win in landslides or lose in them. And there is no chance of Bush winning a landslide.

4. come on guys
odds are it WILL Be close. All this conspiracy theory stuff I just dont understand.

This is a very polarized country right now, and the people who havent made a choice one way or the other are the ones who generally:

a. dont even pay attention until the debates
b. dont go very deep in their voting (i.e. which one is more "warm")

Its going to be close and its going to be about turnout.

Poll numbers and history dont really work for the last two presidential elections IMO, we havent been this 50/50 for a long time.

6. Creating the illusion of a "neck and neck" race serves two purposes
Edited on Sun May-02-04 04:49 PM by rocknation
The narrower the margin of victory, the easier it will be for the Bush regime to steal again. And it gives the mainstream media an audience that is curious and interested, which in turns boosts their viewership, which in turn boosts their profits.

Also, Bush now has nothing to run on. Calling Kerry a flip-flopper or a bad soldier makes him look hypocritical at best and incompetent at worst. And what with having been caught in a lie about the WMDs, the Iraqi prisoner abuses, undersupplying the troops, hiring mercenaries, coalition members pulling out, and handing power back to Saddam associates, Bush's judgement in waging war merits the kind of scrutiny that Cheney recommened for Kerry's judgement. His domestic accomplishments? Don't make me laugh.

So where does that leave the Bush campaign? Skewing the polls and planting stories about "escaped" American prisoners and anonymous Dem "officials" who are "scared" that Kerry isn't "defining" himself enough!
