What is Jesus doing now?
In all our discussion of world affairs, we tend to avoid looking at the possibility that Jesus is alive and active in the present situation, as I believe. Regardless of what Bush & Co. want Jesus to be doing, I think that Jesus is trying to turn hearts towards peace and tolerance. And even if the Da Vinci Code turns out to be true history, it's still history, and what matters is what Jesus is doing right this minute. So, given the premise that Jesus is present, aware, and active, let's not ask "What would Jesus do?" but "What do think Jesus is doing?"

What DO you think he's doing, right now, this Sunday, in Iraq, in America, in the world?

11. It's Jesus who matters, not those who call themselves Christians
When I see the pictures of the tortured soldiers, or the children in hospitals, I have to remember that it is Jesus who matters, and that he is not behind those who do this in his name. He is, I believe, right now working to open people's hearts to peace and end the suffering. And I'm glad he has a lot of people working for him, whether they know it or not.

I don't use capital letters because I'm not trying to say anything about any doctrine of the incarnation or trinity. I'm just trying to talk about what the living Jesus is doing right now, regardless of any theology about him.

10. jesus is torturing the godless heathen muslim
OUR president is a godly man, who accepted christ into his heart, and if he says to smite the godless subhumans who attacked us, even if it involves a little harmless torture, then it's o.k.

the american soldiers who actually do the torturing are all christians, who went to sunday school, and KNOW BETTER.

if jesus were truly the savior of the oppressed, and he saw what was going on IN HIS NAME, he'd be kicking some asses right now. but he ain't. atrocities are being committed in his name, just like in the crusades. christian soldiers, christian killers.

No Jesus, No Peace ~ Know Jesus, Know Peace. Wonder what the "War President" would think about that bumpersticker? I think it is a fundie sticker too. I like it though.

16. I think that Jesus wants to change hearts rather than intervene directly
I think he is trying to convince people to choose to end other's suffering rather than do some big miracle. I do think, though, that someday there will be a "glorious appearing" when he makes it clear what his will is. As U2 says in the Unforgettable Fire, "Don't push me too far. . ."

18. I'm not holding my breath
waiting for some savior to show up. Ain't gonna happen.

Until us humans evolve and realize that god is right here, right now because god is inside of all of us (well except the neocons), only then will we be saved.

20. Yes, but it's nice that Jesus is there to help us find our way to God
I don't think Jesus is doing our work for us. I think he is helping us make the right decisions so we can end the suffering. I also think he wants us to vote for health insurance and a higher minimum wage, while we're at it. But ultimately, the choice for peace has to be our choice. He can't make that for us. But he's beside us, showing us what we could have if we chose God's plan for the world.

25. No, he's not beside us
He is not helping us. Remember that concept called 'free will'?

IMHO, only when people understand that god is inside of them, and not something that is outside or them, or above them, or even next to them, will there be any real hope for us.

23. Jesus is...
...drinking a latte and reading the Sunday New York Times. He'll have sushi for dinner tonight. He'll take his Volvo in for service tomorrow. He's shaking his head at the pseudo-Christian fundie nutcases and at the stupidity perpetrated in His name.

24. Jesus is coming and he is pissed
He is a getting a stiff pipe to swing at those fundie mugs that keep using his name in vain.

Oh no, he ain't coming back this time like no hippie with a halo. This time he is coming back as a steel worker out of his job and ticked to high heaven.

Yep, Jesus is coming and there ain't no peace and love left that can save the false prophets this time.

:-)

The American soldiers who actually do the torturing are all christians, who went to sunday school, and were, (prior to answering the call to smite the subhumans) or will be cops and security guards in your community when their turn at smiting is done.

Do they “KNOW BETTER”? I rather think not, they are the segment of society that goosesteps to a different drummer.
