Hey-Hey-whadaya' say, Torture's O.K. in the U.S. A........!!!
Edited on Sun May-02-04 07:52 AM by mopaul
alan derschowitz said it a couple years back, c-span callers approve of it, we pay 'contract workers' to do it so our boys don't have to dirty their hands, they tell us it saves u.s. lives if we torture folks, guantanmo goes unchecked and torture continues there, offshore. we send our torturing OFFSHORE now. i remember hearing generals say that we actually send certain suspects to egypt, and other countries where torture is accepted.

the iraqi people are used to torture. they've been systematically tortured for decades by our own operative, hussein. now, we liberators continue the torture. the british soldiers too.

but torture has suddenly become just dandy and mainstream. if we can make people think saddam did 9-11, and we can de-humanize all the 'brown people', it's EASY to torture them. THEY ATTACKED US RIGHT? one c-span caller said that. a lady. 'they don't like torture huh? what about what they did in blackhawk down? they drug our boys through the streets and mutilated them', apparently associating what happened 12 years ago a whole other country with the iraqi p.o.w.'s.

but she seemed to think that torture was just fine. i think america needs to decide how it feels about torture in the bright new shiny 21st century. can you believe we are even discussing it?

1. I think RWers are totally drugged with power and dragging US down the
deep hole of hopelessness, secret detentions, and torture.

3. We had to torture them
We had to torture them so we could find where they hid their guns and newspapers so we won't get killed while we lib'rate them to have the same freedoms we do except for guns and newspapers and freedom so they can get ruled again by the people we lib'rated them from.

4. "they tell us it saves u.s. lives if we torture folks,"
Have they ever told us anything that hasn't proved to be a total lie? I am so amazed at the stupidity of Americans to keep believing every word the Republicans say when time and time again they are proved false. Remember the famous lines from virtually every single GOP Congressperson. Clinton's budget will destroy the economy in America. LIARS is what they are, LIARS and TRAITORS to American principles.

5. Anything this administration does is justified in the eyes of the RWingers
It's torture when other people do it, but it's simply humiliation, frat pranks, or justifiable retribution when we do it. All countries in the world should abide by the Geneva Convention except us - dontcha know? Murka is above International Law - we answer to a higher authority - one who obviously thinks that murder and torture is okay (What part of "Thou shalt not . . ." do these people not understand). These people sicken me. There is NOTHING Bushco could do that would get these people to withdraw their support for the regime. NOTHING. He could appear on TV with 666 scrawled on his forhead, declare himself God, and they would all bow down. This is the culture that has come out of 20+ years of televangelists telling mindless sheep what to think and do. This is the culture that has evolved from people plugging their ears screaming "Na, na, na, I'm not going to listen!" when anyone gives evidence to tear down these people's false beliefs.

He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.

Thomas Paine, Dissertation on First Principles of Government, December 23, 1791

If a nation expects to be ignorant — and free — in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.

Thomas Jefferson, letter to Colonel Charles Yancey, January 6, 1816

They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

America united with a handful of troops, or without a single soldier, exhibits a more forbidding posture to foreign ambition than America disunited, with a hundred thousand veterans ready for combat.

James Madison, Federalist No. 14, November 30, 1787

6. It doesn't work anyway
most interrogators say torture is useless for getting intelligence. So the only reason people advovate it's use, is for sadism. Anyone who even suggests it's use is tolerable, is a sadist. Period. So lock up your dogs and watch your kids. If they can cross that line, they will cross others.

"Oh, Justice will be served and the battle will rage.
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A
'Cuz we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way."
Toby Kieth from his "Let's bomb some children and torture for fun" album.

11. Where does it all end, this cycle of pain and torture. I wonder what
these hate filled people advocating torture of others in our country's name feel if their son or cousin is captured by "terrorists" next week. Will they be sorry then?
