At last, a good reason to drink Pepsi
One who shall go unnamed sends this sort of drivel to me all the time. Once in a while I rebut the totally absurd holy roller or jingoistic reich wing stuff but mostly it just gets shitcanned. This, however, is worthy of notice. Heck I might even send Pepsi a thank you note.

>Don't buy Pepsi in the new can. Pepsi has a new "patriotic" can coming
>out with pictures of the Empire State Bldg. and the Pledge of
>Allegiance on them. However, Pepsi left out two little words on the
>pledge, "Under God". Pepsi said they did not want to offend anyone. If
>this is true, then we don't want to offend anyone at the Pepsi
>corporate office. If we do not buy any Pepsi product, they will not be
>offended when they receive our money that has the words "Under God" on
>it.

Now back to the regularly scheduled, infinitely more interesting stuff.

3. Is It Really Safe???
I've been boycotting Pepsi since Nixon was on the board of directors. Obviously he isn't anymore. Is Pepsico actually not too wing nut? Ya mean I might be able to drink a Mountain Dew or munch on Kentucky Fried Chicken without as much guilt?

6. We often buy Whistler spring water.....
If you take away the W and S from "Whistler" you get "Hitler".

Maybe I should start to boycott Whistler water!

7. It's just folklore spreading around.
I think someone exchanged Pepsi for Dr. Pepper and recirculated this nonsense. Even if it was true Pepse did this it would be somewhat difficult to boycott the Corporation that owns Pepsi. That Corporation also owns KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.

That's why at those restaurants you (probably) can't get Coke, and sometimes you'll see all 3 restaurants under 1 roof.

8. A lady at work e/mld this crap a few weeks ago. I laughed and took a big
sip from a Pepsi I had. I don't like someone telling me what I can and cannot buy and certainly not for this dumb reason. I'm actually one of the minority who is fine w/ taking "under god" out of the pledge of allegiance! This is part of the problem we have in America. We get too concerned and all worked up w/ trivial shit. The average American can't name their own reps or senators, but oh everybody knows about the new Pepsi can and the "under god" controversy! Pathetic!!1

14. But if we take out "under God".....
Then Jeebus will cry, the magical 9-11 Teddy Bears will turn their backs and stop working, and people's sons will start coming home from Iraq in boxes....

Oh, wait, that's happening anyway, even WITH "under God" in the pledge....

<attempt at mild Irony>

11. Pepsico has horrendous business practices, and is a major repug donor
Pepsico is the #17 donor to Republicans (ahead of Coke)
http://www.boycottbush.net/

Pepsico gave $225,000 to Democrats, but 1.7 million to Repugs.

Also
The Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Disciples of Christ, and American Friends Service Committee (Quakers)are already boycotting Taco Bell for maltreatment of farm workers.

snip:
Farmworkers picking tomatoes in Florida receive 40 - 45 cents for every 32 pound bucket of tomatoes picked and earn, on average, $7,500 a year according to the Department of Labor. Their wages have remained unchanged in more than 20 years. In the past five years there have been three cases of debt-bondage slavery in the tomato fields that have been prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice and for which convictions and prison sentences have been handed down to crew leaders. Two more cases were uncovered in the fall of 2003.

In 1996 farmworkers formed the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and engaged in hunger strikes, work stoppages, and appeals to government leaders to address the exploitation in the fields. But there was no significant movement from the growers to raise wages or to dialogue with the workers. In 1999 "The Packer," a grower's journal published an article describing the long-term contractual relationship between Taco Bell and one of the lowest paying growers in Florida, the Six-L's Packing Company.

We really should be boycotting all major softdrink companies and fast food outlets. I buy a brand of cola from the healthfood store - Whole Earth Cola. I know that some people don't have a problem with corporate America, but I do, and tend to try to keep our food intake as natural as possible. I buy organic (including meat - I buy Spring Mountain Farms Chicken). Yeah, I spend more at the grocery store, but it's worth it to me.

13. Another reason to drink Pepsi...
...I don't know if what you said is an urban legend or not, but what is certainly not an urban legend is the mistreatment of Coca-Cola workers in Colombia. Several union activists and organizers at Coca-Cola plants down there have been murdered - one right in the factory. Their union has called for a worldwide boycott of Coca-Cola until Coca-Cola cleans up what is going on down there, and I am participating it. I have also protested outside of Coca-Cola's corporate offices where I live with others. I am unhappy with the hundreds of deaths every year of union activists in Colombia, the worst labor violations in the world in that category, and I think a line needs to be drawn that that is unacceptable. I mean, all I want is for Coke in Colombia to beat union organizers with bats until they're unconscious instead of actually killing them. Is that too much to ask for? Of course, I'd prefer they not even do that but I'm not asking for the moon. Check out the web site on this:
