Male DNA registry - (rehash of old argument over Choice)

A few days ago I came up with the idea that perhaps if women lost their reproductive rights and were forced to have children they did not want then perhaps it would only be fair to have all eligible men hand over their DNA in order to make sure they also took responsibility for their offspring (unwanted or not).

In fact I will take it one step further, perhaps in addition to this all women who left the country, who were of child bearing age, would have to also submit to a pregnancy test...that way no wealthy young gals could be flitting off to Switzerland for safe abortions. (it's only fair...since safe abortions are typically available to the wealthy in illegal situations).

I am not trying to be sexist or unfair but I want people to really think of how invasive it is to tell someone what they have to do with their body and their life since the bearing of offspring affects you forever.

Perhaps for the younger people its hard to to imagine but thirty five years ago my mother couldn't even get her tubes tied, the doctor told her that she should talk to her priest. My dad however could have a vasectomy... A friend of mine had a mother who suffered countless miscarriages and 5 hard pregnancies and wanted to stop her fertility....only to have the same thing happen. Finally she went through the humiliation of having to explain to a panel of doctors that she could not emotionally bear the thought of having any more children.....

A cousin of mine got pregnant to a married man...my grandmother and her sister completed the abortion..(my grandmother couldn't even READ)..my cousin is lucky she lived and that she went on to have two children later when she was married. Why did she have the abortion...well having illegitimate children was and to some degree is still considered "shameful" by society.

Women have come a long way to gain control of their sexuality and childbearing ability, we can not lose that right. If we lose that right how far off will it be until the Reverend Dimesdales are hunted down and pilloried as well?

2. Women may be forced to bear children they don't want, but

no one can force them to keep them. Women still have a choice that men do not have. There is no way to force women to "take responsibility for their offspring" unless you outlaw adoption. Men have the choice made for them, often by someone with naked contempt for their wishes. Then those same people complain when the father of their kid seems diffident and uninvolved in the child's upbringing.
Sorry, the deck is still stacked. Even if adoption were banned, you know there would be lots of child selling; the black market in kids would just explode.

3. While adoption seems fine, it is just as hard as abortion

just look at the angst over surrogacy...

Well men can choose not to have sex with women they aren't too sure about (same goes for women) but as a realist I understand that will never happen so that is why I think the more choices there are the better.

I know sometimes men have legitimate complaints but dear GOD they have no real clue.
