Maxine Waters Quote -- Is it real?
Blogs all over the web are attributing the following quote from last weekend's rally to Maxine Waters: "I have to march because my mother could not have an abortion." Is this real or more right-wing crap?

1. No reason to assume the pregnancy in question was Maxine.
Didn't you hear about her profoundy deformed younger brother. Totally incapable of living on her own.... so sad.

OK, that's not true. :)

As for the accuracy of the other quote, try google or snopes...

3. Thank goodness. Maxine is one of our greatest leaders.
While I don't agree with the laws at the time, I'm very glad we've got Maxine.

5. I think she clearly meant that
her mother had NO reproductive choice back then.

Hell, contraceptives were illegal unless you were married.

2. i dunno...
that doesn't sound particularly disturbing to me...does she mean her mother wanted to abort Waters? Sort of weird, but makes sense, i guess.

4. When I was in DC, I went to a breakfast where
Maxine Waters spoke (this was the morning before the march started), and I have one quote from her that I, myself, can verify.

She shouted, and I quote,

GEORGE BUSH CAN GO TO HELL!

12. Thats the wonderful thing about our country
We all are given the chance to express our opionions during elections.
Those that dont, regardless of their choice, are letting all of America down.
Me, I vote Kerry in.
Maxine out. There is more to this country than race.

11. Well, me too, they can quote me
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 08:56 PM by sandnsea
My mother died when I was a year and half. She was pregnant with her fourth child in 7 years. I don't really know how much those pregnancies affected her health. It couldn't have helped, that's for sure. I highly doubt she would have had an abortion, but she didn't even have the option in 1959. If an abortion could have saved her life, she should have at least had that choice.

I march because my mother could not have an abortion. I absolutely do.

14. I support Planned Parenthood and Abortion Rights for all the
women in my family who died from bearing one child after another.

For those who had illegal abortions and never could have a child afterwards when the situation was better.

For those who were bearing one child after another because birth control was for hussies and respectable married women couldn't get it.

16. I can't imagine Maxine being so careless about her intent and her wording
Maxine Waters is fucking AWESOME.

I've seen that lady go head to head with the best of them.

I think that quote is bullshit.
