need links to independent report of numbers at Women's March
I have a Christian friend who might sign my complaint letter to local newspaper about their burying the story, IF I can show her the 1.15 million number reported by an independent source (not NARAL or Planned Parenthood for example)

Can anyone help out here?

Thanks gang!:toast:

1. The only place
that I heard the one million number was on CSPAN. It was at the end of the rally and was reported by the administration of the march. They said that they had counter at all the entrances to the Mall.
I also that they signed in so as to be able to be counted and contacted at a later date. How true that is I dont know.

from what I understand, the Park Service doesn't release official estimates because they got sued for under-estimating Million Man March attendees.

Met a guy in National Airport (I refuse to attach the former President's name) waiting to leave Monday nite. He had 2 photos - an aerial view of the Mall during the Million Man March & another during the March for Women. Our march looked to have about 33% more people. He said he was with Planned Parenthood in Chicago and was going to put them on the Internet, but I haven't had any luck finding it.

And yes, we had people sign up on a sheet to try to know how many people were there. We also gave them stickers to indicate people were counted.

4. yes, I know there are photos here but I guarantee my friend
won't go so far as to look at DU. Too partisan. I don't think there's a comparison shot of the MillMan March anyway.

Geez, NO-ONE has printed the correct number, except us and the organizers of the march? I would have expected (naively hoped?) that the Times or Washington Post would have at least....I think that's the only kind of thing she'll believe.
shit:-(

"1,150,000 March on Washington, D.C. to Voice Opposition to Government Attacks on Women's Reproductive Rights and Health

Sunday April 25, 4:43 pm ET

Official Crowd Count Largest Ever for Women's Rights Rally in The Nation's Capitol

WASHINGTON, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- An estimated 1,150,000 descended on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. today to give an urgent wake-up call to government leaders and the nation-women's lives are at risk and lawmakers stop intruding on a woman's right to access critical reproductive health services and make deeply personal decisions about her health and life...

snip

Using standard crowd estimate methods, March participants were counted in designated grids on the National Mall, which are designed to hold a predetermined number of people. The March also verified this count by assigning 2,500 volunteers to stand at key entry points to the March area and at bus drop-off locations and count people by placing March stickers on participants as they entered these entry points...."

8. HOORAY 2
Notice they say "reproductive rights" when a lot of other news sources made it sound like abortion rights and called us abortion supporters.

10. Again, that's because it's a press release
If you can't get the wording right in your own press release, then you are in trouble.

9. Sorry, it is NOT a link to an independent source
That's a press release.

The city police put the number close to 750,000 -- just a bit different than the grandiose claims of 1.15 million. I hate grandstanding. Seven hundred and fifty thousand is awesome. I wish they would have just stuck with that.

11. dammit, I noticed "press release" AFTER I sent it to her
crap.
crap crap crap. Oh well.
She likes Dr Laura too. I told her about the gay-hate and she found it hard to believe and asked for direct quotes, so I sent her a bunch. She seems willing to consider contradictions IF there are direct quotes or proof. Can't blame her for that, I would do the same. She never said anything about the Dr Laura quotes.

Well, anyhow.....

And crap again, the letter I sent to our local paper and a big bunch of friends about their sahmefully propagandistic coverage relied on "1 million" and "Largest march on Washington EVER in US history". Shit. That kind of mistake will just permit them to completely justify their putting human-interest stories about the mafia and evangelical fund-nuts on the front page ahead.

Canada's Toroonto Globe had a full front-page photo. Waaa, I want to move to Canada.
