Powell Says Support for Iraq War Will Revive
Too bad the soldiers who have died, won't.

Here is what the Vampire of the Desert had to say:

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said on Thursday waning support among Americans for the occupation of Iraq (news - web sites) would revive once U.S. forces there stamped out a surge of armed resistance.

In the most intense battles since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), U.S. forces have launched an air and ground offensive aimed at defeating anti-American fighters in the city of Falluja and are locked in a standoff around the holy city of Najaf.

With fewer than half of Americans now telling pollsters they believe invading Iraq was the right thing to do, Powell acknowledged "determined resistance" had given the military "tough" weeks.

"Obviously when casualties are going up, and April has been a particularly bad month for casualties...this causes people to stop and think and reflect, 'What are we doing?' and you can expect this to be reflected in the polls," Powell said during a news conference in Denmark.

So what is he saying? That after we get over the 1000th dead soldier that we'll just forget about it and just raise our pom-poms for more bloodshed?

6. I don't think Americans will ever accept the cost that it will take
just to bring democracy to Iraq. Soon they will be saying, to hell with Iraq, let's spend our money here.

What has this war got us? We got Saddam in a cell, nothing else.

7. Maybe they'll be less support for his fraud
...on the American people when the press starts taking a closer look at the wounded and how severe their injuries are, in addition to the increased deaths. Profound head injuries, blindness and amputations are virtually never shown or discussed in the press. Thousands have been wounded. Where are they? In over one year, I've seen one news story on a soldier with a serious facial wound.
