1. Our tax dollars at work
We should be required to post the picture of the child in the last group with the burned face and the rib sticking out of his side on billboards near every polling both, media outlet, and Republican official's house in America.

4. it may seem a bit simplistic
but it seems to me a most staggering perspective to realize that those we are fighting in Iraq have never threatened the U.S. and are doing nothing but fighting to free their country from foreign occupation ...

and just because they oppose the presence of the American military, we are slaughtering them by the thousands ...

this war is madness ... "god help us all" ... very well said ...

btw, welcome to DU, grannyfran !!!

11. yep
most people don't realize that Iraq has never launched an attack on the US (though they tried to respond to our fly overs in the "no fly zone".) I remember hearing a woman cheering after we invaded saying how this will get them back for all the terrible things they've done to the US.

5. from a CBS poll
source: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/04/28/opinion/polls/main614605.shtml

"There are growing concerns about the long-term impact of the war. 41 percent now think the war increased the threat of terrorism against the U.S. 71 percent say the Administration’s policies have worsened the U.S.’s image in the Arab world."

6. Gives new depth to words like horror, monstrous and hell.
Now tell me again why the media which the conservatives scream is so liberal is not publishing pictures such as these. That picture of the horribly burned child (who probably died of shock) should be submitted for the Pulitzer Prize. It is even more horrifying than that classic shot of the naked, screaming, napalmed little Vietnamese girl. But Americans have better things to watch - seven out of the top ten tv shows are the "reality" shows . Here at DU, we know that these pictures are the reality.

19. Are you kidding? These are the kind of pictures that Rumsfeld
& co. were screaming about Al Jazeera printing and riling up the Arabs to more anti American feeling! Freedom of the press and no censorship is great until it works against the government - then they'll use any excuse to keep it out of public view.
Why the hell would Al Jazeera not show this stuff to their public? The government has no right to say that thye shouldn't. If its the truth, then people have a right to know. Its just the
American people who have the wool pulled over their eyes

8. What an odd mix
of photos that seem to have been taken by someone with a conscience... maybe in an effort to expose the atrocities of war. And... photos that seem to have been taken by a sightseer. Here we've got our camel, and here our tank with all my buddies on it, and here the capital of Baghdad... and here... a bit of human shrapnel.

13. I also....

I am also ashamed. I dont know what else to say.

This is a vicious fucking circle. We kill their children... they grow to hate us. They kill our children and young men... we grow to hate them even more... over and over and over....

I lay the blame at the feet of the * (b)administration and the right-wing 'christian' extremists.

18. What's even more obscene
Is how the Media from the GOP propaganda machine Fox News to the NY Times never show any of this stuff...and it's hypocrisy in the highest form....go ahead a kill people by the thousands but DON'T LET AMERICANS SEE THE GORE & DESTRUCTION THEY HAVE BROUGHT.

Saddam is now looking like a saint by most standards ...
The "ceasefire/massacre" in Fallujah; the rape and torture of prisoners in Abu Ghraib and other prisons in Iraq. Only "God/Bush" knows whats going on in Guantonamo Bay???

While 50% of Americans sponsor these activities, the other 50% are content to blame "this Administration". At some point we have to ask ourselves -- Is attributing blame really enough?

22. Well, I do have a sensitive soul, but
I'm very glad I got to see these pictures. The suffering inflicted on both sides is horrendous. Man's inhumanity to man. Thank you for posting these. Do you mind sharing with us how you got them? If it's not hurting anyone, that is.

No holds barred depiction of what goes on in armed conflict.

People need to see this stuff when they call for WAR This is always the result, unpleasant to say the least. If these pictures say anything to me, they say that war should always be the last option!

It sickens and saddens me to see this stuff -- and I should be sickened saddened. I need to be sickened and saddened by this stuff, least I become desensitized to violence.
