"Truth Telling" about Chicken Dick Cheney.

To the Honorable Senator Frank Lautenberg,

I would like to commend you for your words of truth spoken today on the floor of the U.S Senate. Dick Cheney has proven is mean and hypocritical spirit with is horrible attacks on John Kerry's war service record.

Yes indeed, "We know who the chickenhawks are". And there are so many more "chickenhawks" on the "Right Side"
of the aisle.

Again, I thank you Senator for your terrific defense of John Kerry for he is both a war hero who served his country honorably and a great statesman.

Again, this cowardice act shows how much this administration disrespects our Veterans who have fought for our freedoms.

Sincerely

edit: please email the Senator and ask him to keep it coming!

But I will share the good part of this artical because the rest of it is GOP tripe leaving out 99% of the truth behind how they are Chicken Hawks.

Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey blasted Vice President Dick Cheney as "the lead chicken hawk"

Kerry and criticized other Republicans for questioning the Democratic presidential contender's military credentials.

In a scathing speech, Lautenberg said he did not think politicians should be judged by whether they had military service but that "when those who didn't serve attack the heroism of those who did, I find it particularly offensive."

Lautenberg pointed to a poster with a drawing of a chicken in a military uniform that defined a chicken hawk as "a person enthusiastic about war, provided someone else fights it."

This is what My Home State Senator Said:

"They shriek like a hawk, but they have the backbone of the chicken," he said.

"We know who the chicken hawks are. They talk tough on national defense and military issues and cast aspersions on others. When it was their turn to serve where were they? AWOL -- that's where they were," Lautenberg said.

"And now the chicken hawks are cackling about Senator John Kerry. And the lead chicken hawk against Senator Kerry is the vice president of the United States -- Vice President Cheney.

"He was in Missouri this week claiming that Senator Kerry was not up to the job of protecting this nation. What nerve. Where was Dick Cheney when that war was going on?" Lautenberg said.

Cheney did not serve in the U.S. military. Lautenberg quoted a Cheney interview from the 1980s that he had "other priorities" in the '60s than military service.

repug outrages with a little zing...I told him his statements got the most TV replay I had seen in a long time. And told him this might be the only way to get some time on the "liberal media."

Your "chickenhawk" speech was great, here:

Subject: The Truth about KERRY's Medals - Baiting Civilians and Veterans

The wingnuts are expert manipulators of military baiting and of its corollary, baiting civilian ignorance of military traditions and issues. The latest is the dual assault on KERRY’s military record, on the one hand the smear that his first wound was “slight”and now something about his medals and ribbons.

But first, the matter of civilian ignorance. A couple of years ago, Meredith VIEIRA exemplified this when her View group was discussing the Army’s plan to extend the black beret as an Army-wide uniform item as opposed to its then being exclusive to the Rangers, and the resistance to this from the Rangers. The discussion was mystified and uninterested, and ended with Ms VIEIRA saying, “And they say women have trivial hang-ups, here the guys are having a spat over the color of their hats.”No concept of the tradition at stake. And soon the issue died away since the Rangers were probably embarrassed at looking silly in civilian eyes, with NO Rosetta Stone to decipher the concept.

So now the chickenhawk Shrubbites and their chickenhawk media shills are drumming up a fake issue about KERRY’s medals, and are playing up the civilian ignorance factor by inserting the “ribbons”part, as if there were some greater significance to it. Additionally, they are giving themselves cover to say that this assault is “not about questioning his patriotism”by attempting to frame it as “Did Kerry (gasp) LIE?”as Chris VLASCO put it on ABC.com.

KERRY said that in his symbolic protest against a wrong war, he returned his ribbons and somebody else's’(at their request) medals, yet the chickenhawk media shills are playing up that KERRY actually “kept”his own medals.

Somehow this has turned into “KERRY’s medals and ribbons flap.”Mystified civilians are wondering how big an issue this is. If they only knew that it is a complete NON-issue. Medals are recognitions of many different degrees of individual accomplishment, starting from ZERO accomplishment besides just SHOWING UP, BEING THERE, all the way up to actually PERFORMING exemplary acts of individual heroism, and everything in between. For the record, several of KERRY’s medals are of the “heroic”variety.

Medals are seldom worn, being limited to the most formal occasions with the full dress uniform. Instead, the colored ribbon parts are worn. Both are the same award. The first issue is “free” from the government, but since the ribbons get dirty from frequent use, replacements are often needed and these are BOUGHT at any of thousands of military supply stores, and now thousands of websites. And the medals themselves can be BOUGHT exactly the same way, easily and cheaply. Actually, ANYBODY can purchase these items, meaning persons like chickenhawks who were never in any service anywhere.

So even if KERRY had returned his own medals, he could have INSTANTLY replaced them by purchase. The medals/ribbons are of significance only to the individual himself and his immediate family. There are some jokes about medals, one being that with a medal and $1.75 you can buy a cup of coffee, and another from MAULDIN’s famous cartoon, “Forget the Purple Heart, give me a couple of aspirins.”

Once again wingnuts show how they confuse material symbols with intangible concepts: They think that a flag is actual freedom; that medals are actual heroics; that statues of religious depictions are actual religion; that symbolic protest is actual desecration. Sort of the way they confuse assertions with actual proof.

The true desecration is how supposedly “patriotic”Shrubbites smear persons who put their lives where their words were, persons like McCAIN, CLELAND, and KERRY, as opposed to the all-talk wingnut chickenhawks who bully, bluster, and just ASSERT things.

12. My Email to Senator Lautenberg
Congratulations, Senator Lautenberg!

I am so proud to read of your courageous, honest and well overdue speech today. Finally, an elected representative who speaks the words that the public has been saying for months.

It outrages me that our brave men and women are dying in Iraq in a war based on lies and deception--that they are sent there by a group of *leaders* who declined to serve our country and yet for political gain have the temerity to attack another man, John Kerry, who did serve bravely.

I am a former Republican who is disgusted and appalled by the lies we are being told by our so-called "elected" administration.
Put me on your mailing list. Come re-election time, you can bet I'll be contributing to your campaign. We need more honest representatives like you in our Congress. The American public is neither stupid, nor gullible. We can see clearly what is going on, and will not tolerate being condescended nor lied to any longer.

I applaud you, Sir. You have my utmost respect for calling a chickenhawk a chickenhawk today.

I will never forget your act of courage and honesty today.

America--the true America, that believes in honesty and fidelity to our Constitution as written by our forefathers--is in your debt.

Just FYI--he only responds to NJ emails due to his high volume of email. If you want to send an congrats e-mail, better be a NJ resident! ;)
