1. It's not as bad as terrorists.
From here on out, anybody who uses "terrorists" for the people in Iraq is nothing more than a god damn bigot.

5. Terrorists, rebels, insurgence, ItÕs all the same thing É
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 07:49 PM by Bushknew
They all wind up using violence for political change.

To the English, the American settlers were rebels because they didnÕt want to follow
the rules imposed by England.

Violence is violence and collateral damage is killing innocent people, period.

6. You're missing the point, The language has changed.
Early on it was dead-enders, regime remnants, Ba'athists, Saddam loyalists, etc. Then we heard a lot about terrorists, but that really didn't stick.

The fact that they are now using the term "insurgent" is telling of how the conversation has changed. When they are called rebels, we'll be leaving.

7. whats wrong with "insurgent" ?
from dictionary.com:

insurgent

adj : in opposition to a civil authority or government n 1: a person who takes part in a rebellion in the hope of improving conditions 2: a member of an irregular armed force that fights a stronger force by sabotage and harassment

Seems accurate to me.

12. I don't get it either. There's no negative connotation.
The term insurgent is not a pejorative term.

11. Insurgent says to me:
Wierd they use that name. Insurgent means "we fucked up the first time and never took away their weapons, searched, got the bad guys, etc" and thus, we now have another outright war on our hands by people who are Iraqi people. To say "terrorists" brings up the charge "George, you asshole, they didn't have a terrorist problem there until you made it the Terrorist Club Med central"!! But,dear, you must be patient. Our resident Waffler---ahhh, steady leader, was all over the 'excuse' book and back looking for "da' reason I invaded dat der sandpile in the first place".......geees, with leaders like this, who needs the goddamn al Quaeda?????????
