Military Commander in Iraq Orders Arbitrary Killing of Friendly, Old Dogs
Mosul, Iraq -- Now that the military has told scores of troops that their stays in Iraq are to be extended, how about demoralizing them further by rounding up and shooting the dogs who have befriended them? That is the order that LTC Dennis Thompson has given in Mosul. He has singled out in particular a dog named "Blue" -- whose ears are tattered, but who has offered nothing but trusting eyes and loyalty to the soldiers he has befriended. It is reported that if Blue is not gone by Friday LTC Thompson will personally shoot him.

What a way to run a war.

4. This is so disgusting
I simply can't find the words other than despicable bastards.

And they want us to support the troops who are doing this? I am sick to my stomach at this very moment...

5. Are cats next?
No clearer example of how things are quickly going to hell in Iraq. It can only get worse for everyone as long as the neocons are in charge.

12. Kill the friendly domestic predators and wait for plague?
Is that what we are gonna resort too in Iraq?

I would think cats and dogs are doing a couple of great services in a war ravaged area: rodent control & therapy.

8. How NOT to win friends and influence people
Does the LTC recall a certain tradition used in Viet Nam for dealing with officers who make foolish decisions which in turn make life more dangerous for the troops?

Shoot old dogs, indeed. Just how old is this LTC. Thompson? A young pup with no perspective or an old dog who should know better?

10. Just when I think we've hit bottom, we make new lows.
There's an old saying - "He whom the Gods would destroy, they first drive mad."

I wonder - are we as a country going insane?

11. IIRC, something very similar happened stateside some months ago.
Instead of telling them to find the dog a home or taking it to the pound, the troops were told to shoot the dog. :(

13. There's
probable not to much of a pound there now.
But hibbs people, if the guys afraid of rabies, just give the poor dog a shot of vaccine, not a shot of lead.
Like those poor soldiers don't need all the love and friendship they can get.

HOW MEAN!
