The power of Air America
This past weekend Washington, D.C. experienced one of the largest marches ever for a liberal cause.

This march was largely advertised and promoted on Air America, the new liberal radio network. Talking to others at the march, most everyone there had at least heard of Air America and many others had heard about the march from there. The radio network constantly extolled this march in the last week before the event.

The power of Air America was present last weekend in Washington.

1. I judge their power...
By the way neocons are trying to bring them down. They must be shitting in their pants!

2. We need to help them anyway we can. How do we get advertisers
in, and for the ones that are in, how can we make them aware that we try to support their "products" because we listen to Air America?

I know they don't accept contributions because they said people were sending them checks and they could not accept them because they are a for-profit enterprise.

6. Posts like this one and emails to the shows will help.
I've never been in sales, but I know those trying to sell ads on Air America Radio will not only use the listener numbers from local station information, but the band width useage to convince potential advertisers that they should give it a try.

I live in Ga. so all I can do is listen via the net, but I do every day. I also send emails to the different shows expressing how happy I am to finally have a talk radio station to listen to instead of being forced to listen to "Conservative ONLY" stuff.

Advertisers care about how many listeners much more than they care about the show contents.

8. I started keeping track of the current advertisers.

There was a discussion about this a few days back, so I started making a note of the commercials I heard on Air America. Let's support these advertisers and any new ones who sign on as well.

This is what I've got so far...anyone who wants to add to the list, please do.

**I should also mention that I am listening in NYC on 1190 AM.

3. What depresses me when I listen is...
It is the only radio station where I will sit through commercials for, but all they seem to have on are anti drunk driving PSA's or other PSA's which seem to make up the bulk of their commercial time. There is the occasional other commercial for like Bayer aspirin or something but when you have 2 PSA's for Recording Artists against Drunk Driving in the same commercial time segment, that worries me.

4. Today I heard one for Bayer weed killer. I am going out to buy
this poisonous stuff (I do have dandelions) and send them an e-mail saying it was because of their ad.

7. Where are you listening?
If you are listening to the webstream you aren't getting the local radio station commercials. If you're listening to XM you get different ads for XM stuff.

The frequency with which the thing goes silent on the webstream tells me it's selling plenty of ads.

10. I listen in the New York/New Jersey area on 1190AM
I hear the occasional ad, but by and large the majority are overwhelmingly PSAs.

11. Here in Minnesota...
I have heard ads from American Express and McDonalds on the station that carries Air America. Unfortunately, we only hear 2 programs- the O'Franken factor and the Ed Schultz show. I usually listen via the internet as well.
