"All Female World" possible: ABC Nightly News just now

Two female mice were used to create a child of the two, also female.
The DNA of one mouse was altered to allow the two to combine. This technique could possibly be used in the future with humans. Two gay females could bear a child that is genetically their own. But this technique can only produce female offspring. It makes an all female world possible! (How dull)

8. this is the kind of thing..
that I don't really understand... are they just doing basic genetic research, or is this a goal they had been trying to achieve?

If the latter, then :wtf: for??? Don't we have millions of children ripe for adoption as it is? We need more ways to NOT have babies in this world!!

11. Absolutely!
While I understnad the desire to have kids from your own genes, there are a great many who are already here who need loving parents, and IMHO that would be a far more noble and selfless act.

9. while exciting...it's a long way from being used for humans
~snip~
"The paper shows that, like cloning, another asexual form of reproduction is possible in mice and may be possible in some other
"This is an incredible achievement, the process of creating these mice required perseverance and patience: From around 600 eggs only two mice were created. As a result, this technique is far too complicated to be used in humans," said Professor Azim Surani of the University of Cambridge in England.

But the research could improve understanding of genetic imprinting and what causes abnormalities in embryos, as well as knowledge about the beginning of life.

Kono said his results suggest that paternal imprinting prevents parthenogenesis in mammals and ensures a male role in reproduction.

"Until we fully understand the role and regulation of imprinted genes in development, it seems that the participation of the father in reproduction will remain necessary," David Loebel and Patrick Tam, of the University of Sydney in Australia, said in a commentary in the journal.

Also, depending on your religion, women are the ones who brought all the woe into the world.
