Would the 60's and 70's rockers be as quiet today about the war
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 04:39 PM by trumad
compared to today's rockers? I don't think so... I think today's Rockers sit in their Ivory Towers and are too afraid to speak up because they might get Dixie Chicked.... It just goes to show you how tough the "Chicks" are...

Hey Springsteen, hey Fogerty...where the hell are you today?

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give?
Ooh, they only answer more! more! more! yoh,

It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no military son, son.
It ain’t me, it ain’t me; I ain’t no fortunate one, one.

2. No.
ALL walks of life in Imperial Amerika have grown more comfortable with Virtual Slavery and Silence in the face of Bushevik Evil.

No need to single out the rockers. Imperial Amerika is rapidly becoming a Nation of Brownshirts, Slaves, and Apathetic.

Disgusting. Our nation held such promise...and still does

But the sands are running out to fufill that promise.

4. No, they wouldn't
Just MO but they certainly weren't during Vietnam (but of course we didn't have Clear Channel then either!)

5. Well.....
We had been a few years and thousands of lives into Vietnam at the time rock got more anti-war.

Fortunate Son didn't come out until 1970, a few years after CCR started to make a name for themselves.

7. Most of our citizens don't really know...
...what is going on in Iraq. If the truth was being shown more on TV news as it was in the late 60's and 70's about Vietnam I think there would be greater protest marches and demonstrations here at home. The censors and propagandists have been working very hard to keep the truth from all of us. The use of depleted uranium by our military and its effects on the Iraqi populations since 1st used in Iraq War I is an example of total ignorance by most Americans about this WMD. Bush will have dropped a nuclear device long before most of us know this has happened. He may already have done this. He may very well be planning to take this action against an Iraqi population target without any of us knowing this is even being considered. How do citizens protest against such secrecy by our government?

George Harrison too, I think would have been a strong voice for peace and reason. Even McCartney has bitched a bit - in between makings billions.

He certainly wouldn't be singing "Give Shock and Awe a Chance!"

12-8-80 & 12-12-00 were two of the saddest days in the history of the peaceful, free-loving world. ;(

The top of the chart rockers are slaves.

Not to mention the fact that everyone including them is massively less informed then they were in the 60s.

Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 06:27 PM by Classical_Liberal
Media consolidation and business bias, and the fact that they care more about scandals than real news. Should anyone expect a NBC a company owned by defense contracter, GE to cover the war objectively. I sure as hell don't.

The educational system also sucks.

24. Good question
we need to enforce antitrust laws again, particularly against media consolidation. We need to fight attempts to control the internet, like they control the news, and kids need to learn geography and history again.

everything has to go through the clearchannel process. Remember the list of songs "radio" wouldn't allow stations to play after 911? Why does every generation seem to want it's own freakin' war?

13. Stereolab?
Ping Pong (from which I derive my screen name)

it's alright 'cause the historical pattern has shown
how the economical cycle tends to revolve
in a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
a slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

you see the recovery always comes 'round again
there's nothing to worry for things will look after themselves
it's alright recovery always comes 'round again
there's nothing to worry if things can only get better

there's only millions that lose their jobs and homes and sometimes accents
there's only millions that die in their bloody wars, it's alright

it's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
it's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing

it's alright 'cause the historical pattern has shown
how the economical cycle tends to revolve
in a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
a slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

don't worry be happy things will get better naturally
don't worry shut up sit down go with it and be happy

dum, dum, dum, de dum dum, de duh de duh de dum dum dum... ah ah
dum, dum, dum, de dum dum, de duh de duh de dum dum dum... ah ah

Gus The Mynah Bird

A military regime
in democratic disguise
that lies in all impunity
takes apart what it took
people years to build
public institutions
that promised a decent life

self-determination should be fact
not essentially a right

there are the lobbies
insurance companies
who want to change
the whole country
into a vast
commercial counter
for the pure consumer

the promise to give the
generals a better place

self-determination should be fact
in the face of corruption

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Rose My Rocket Brain!

The stance and demands must be clear:
backing the Iraqi people
against military action
As it stands it is guaranteed
that our disrespected leaders
are gonna get away with this
Marcher, what are you marching for?
weak with the political aim
The fate of Iraq will not be
in the hands of the Iraqis

When faced with war
we ought to ask, is it just?
is it unjust?
what can be done instead?
When faced with peace
we ought to think of the people
whose very world is threatened
by such a war
A peace movement should
radically challenge
the idea that the western powers have
the right to determine the
of the rest of the world,
Yet the anti-war movement today
passively takes on
the view of the west

No, not peace, protest to ????
???? … of western powers
There is no political case
No position to ??? our leaders
Even less for their demands for
??? politic and social changes
Nowhere is the people’s view heard
To ………. ???

Uniting the people around fears, frustrations –
That’s no way to create positive politics

15. More...
Avant Garde M.O.R.

Now it is the time to say no to the war
Yes, we can stop them before it gets too far
The process is already engendered
Stop it before it does get too far
The ways to pressurize are numerous
Often at the threshold of your door
Can't you see our power is limitless
It can take us beyond any bounds

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Laisser-Faire

It will come to us as a shock
but we're letting it happen
people with their carelessness
governments with their laisser-faire
are going to lead us straight to it
that's for sure

history will only repeat itself once more
the western world is going more and more right wing
yearning for some sort of protection, too scared to do anythng
not to take the path that's dragging us down, oh no
remember it's in our power not to go down
I can feel it more and more
In ten years we'll have a war
I can feel it more and more
In ten years we'll have a war

19. Not true! - they're out there! Spearhead....Bomb the World
This guy is really getting some attention - well deserved!!!

please tell me the reason
behind the colors that you fly
love just one nation
and the whole world we divide
you say you're "sorry"
say, "there is no other choice"
but God bless the people them
who cannot raise their voice

we can chase down all our enemies
bring them to their knees
we can bomb the world to pieces
but we can't bomb it into peace
whoa we me even find a solution
to hunger and disease
we can bomb the world to pieces
but we can't bomb it into peace

violence brings one thing
more more of the same
military madness
the smell of flesh and burning pain
so I sing out to the masses
stand up if you're still sane !
to all of us gone crazy
I sing this one refrain

and I sing power to the peaceful
love to the people y'all
power to the peaceful
love to the people y'all
