Will homosexuals be drafted?
Seriously? Because if not, couldn't one get out of the draft by pretending to be gay until the war was over?

A completely believeable excuse, too, because, contrary to what those lib'ruls tell you, it's a choice and not genetic!

3. I read somewhere that dont ask dont tell...
Does not apply during the draft - e.g. Gays can be drafted and are just locked in the brig if they practice...

5. Er, what type of proof would you need?
I mean, what would be required?

Too funny

6. I honestly don't think they could do that
How would you prove you are gay, without getting into inappropriate sexual harassment?

11. I've been wondering this too
Although I've come to expect this administration's ability to find new lows when I've thought they've hit bottom, the sheer hypocrosy of drafting those they wouldn't let into the volunteer army is overwhelmingly repugnant. Also, if they DO draft GBLT people into the armed services, what happens when one performs a heroic act? Saves a life? Saves his/her entire unit? Will they get medels? Will they admit that they were wrong in the past for not allowing them into their military?

That's quite a pickel the military has gotten itself into.

17. The burden of proof is on them... LOL... Imagine that
Some drill instructor...

"So, the draft board tells me you are a ho-mo-sexual. We are gonna find out, soldier! "

(Busts out a Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, etc...)

"Do you find these women arousing? Do you, soldier?"

(This is the kind of shit that could screw somebody up for life, no matter what their sexuality is)

But, to be serious now, I don't think that they will even bother with the sexual orientation of people they draft. They will let homosexuals die for Bush, but they won't let them get married.

Hell, they will probably force them to serve, and then once their service is up they will be dishonorably discharged for being, well, homosexual.

Wouldn't suprise me

2. You can't get married but you can die for us.
I think they'll take you even if you perform a homosexual act in the draft office.

7. Same applies to men under age of 21; you're good enough to
fight but not "mature" enough to enjoy a beer. Stupid law.

For just that very reason.

12. Bill Murry in "Stripes"
Recruiter: "Are either of you homosexual?"

Bill: "You mean flaming?"

Recruiter: "Well, it's a standard question."

Bill: "No, we're not gay."

Harold Ramis: "But we are willing to learn."

Bill: "Would they send us to a special camp or something?"

Recruiter: "I'll just put that down as a no."

It is part of the get folks married plan that Bush received from God.

I would LOVE for Bush to say "I'll Constitutionally bar you from having the right to marry, but here, take this gun and go get killed in my bogus war."

We here in NYC would tear shit up!!

Loved Randi Rhodes's suggestion that the Dems start talking up that possibility.

20. No.
Only males 18 and older. Drafting women would require a major change in the laws governing the Selective Service. Don't see it happening unfortunately.

21. Unconstitutional?
I thought that I read somewhere before that to reinstate the Draft in our modern times they would HAVE to include women or it would get challenged in court for being sexist and discriminatory? It would be like saying OK we are only going to draft Arab Americans, you know the lawsuits would start flying and for good reason.

Not that I'm just itching to get drafted :D I'm just saying I would think they are on very iffy legal ground.

22. When has "very iffy legal ground" stopped these guys?
For purpose of equality--either in serving or in avoiding--I'd say women should be on the same footing as men.

But drafting women would offend those who want them to stay "in their place". These are a big subset of the Bush supporters.

24. Now, understand that I agree with you...
...and have no issue with drafting women. Unfortunately when it comes to issues of equality the "sword tends to cut in only one direction". The American public, and by default it's leadership, is not ready for the potential drafting of every women over the age of 18. Many of them are still not comfortable with women in service period.

The only way a co-sex draft would be completely fair would be to also opn up all combat branches to female conscripts. If we didn't then most likely all men drafted would go directly to combat units and none of them would ahve any chance of going to Combat Support, or Combat Service Support units. Those billets would be filled entirely from the female draftee population. In other words we would still end up with a situation where only men are serving in the combat branches adn would still be the ones primarily getting shot at. CS and CSS units are more likely to see hostiel fire on the modern battlefield, but it still isn't quite the same thing.

If my precious baby boy goes, so does the sorority sister.

He'd be pissed to read this but I'm deadly serious. I'd go in his place. Oh, wait, I might have to. I'm a nurse and won't be 45 until after the June 2005 inception of the (help me here, I'm lazy) act to take computer specialists, health care workers, under the age 45, 50 if they're physicians.

Include both genders. Make some people use their gol-dang brains about this shit for a change.

Edit for bad punctuation. The sentiment is dead-on, though.
