And yes, it will be released in the U.S. before the election -- tentative for September. - Paragon

"The Ladykillers," the Coen brothers' remake of a 1955 comedy caper, will be among the 18 films in competition at the Cannes Film Festival next month.

...Among other films to vie for the coveted top honor, the Palme d'Or:..."Fahrenheit 9/11" by Academy Award-winning documentarian Michael Moore.

...The U.S. entries include previous Cannes winners: Moore, whose "Bowling for Columbine" (2002) went on to win an Oscar; and Joel and Ethan Coen, who won two prizes for "Barton Fink" in 1991.

2. Very interested to see how it fares in Cannes
When Moore toured the US in 2002 in support of Stupid White Men, he brought Bowling for Columbine with him to at least some of his speaking engagements. ginbarn and I saw him at UNT in Denton a month before BFC competed in Cannes, and when we saw snippets of the film, we left hoping he wouldn't snip a thing. Fortunately, I don't think he did.

Cannes Picks Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911"

Friends,

I just got word that my new film, "Fahrenheit 911," has been selected by the Cannes Film Festival to premiere there in competition next month!

This is only the second time in the last 48 years that a documentary has been chosen to be in the main competition (the first being "Bowling for Columbine" in 2002) -- and, in fact, another documentary has also been chosen for this year. The non-fiction film revolution rolls on!

I am deeply honored by this announcement, considering it comes from our mortal enemy, the French.

This year's jury in Cannes is headed by Quentin Tarantino and also includes director Jerry Schatzberg, Kathleen Turner, Tilda Swinton and others.
