What about Max Cleland for VP?
I'm listening to him on Air America and he sounds great. I've never heard him speak before.

Southern war veteran. I don't know a lot else about him - would Americans not see him a presidential material because of his disabilities?

1. I would love to see Max Cleland as VP on our ticket.
And I need someone to tell me why he would NOT be a good choice.

3. devil's advocate:
Because he couldn't even keep his Senate seat and all the dirty tricks the Rethugs used then will be used again.

8. Hopefully,
the national party would fight back harder. They certainly have more resources than his state party did.

6. Sounds good to me...
except I'm sure SOMEONE in the media will say "it's risky" having two Senators (one current and one former) on the ticket... :eyes:

7. I suspect he's on the unofficial list...
The two Senators are joined at the hip at events.

10. to the max
At very least, Cleland should have big role in the new Kerry Administration. If not V.P. ... a close advisor. If not that, then at VERY least, head of Veterans Affairs.

Franken is expressing his hatred for Ann Coulter's disgusting, DISGUSTING slam against Max Cleland, as expressed in her vomitous Feb. 12 column ...

Cleland drops a political grenade

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/anncoulter/printac20040212.shtml

snip ...

"Former Sen. Max Cleland is the Democrats' designated hysteric about George Bush's National Guard service. ..."

"... Cleland lost three limbs in an accident during a routine noncombat mission where he was about to drink beer with friends. He saw a grenade on the ground and picked it up. He could have done that at Fort Dix. In fact, Cleland could have dropped a grenade on his foot as a National Guardsman – or what Cleland sneeringly calls "weekend warriors." Luckily for Cleland's political career and current pomposity about Bush, he happened to do it while in Vietnam.

There is more than a whiff of dishonesty in how Cleland is presented to the American people. ... "

"... Indeed, if Cleland had dropped a grenade on himself at Fort Dix rather than in Vietnam, he would never have been a U.S. senator in the first place. Maybe he'd be the best pharmacist in Atlanta, but not a U.S. senator. He got into office on the basis of serving in Vietnam and was thrown out for his performance as a senator. ..."

"... Cleland wore the uniform, he was in Vietnam, and he has shown courage by going on to lead a productive life. But he didn't "give his limbs for his country," or leave them "on the battlefield." There was no bravery involved in dropping a grenade on himself with no enemy troops in sight. That could have happened in the Texas National Guard – which Cleland denigrates while demanding his own sanctification."

9. I thought of this a while back, and I really like the idea. . . .
Two long time lawmakers, both Vietnam vets, one from New England one from the south. . . . I think it would be a hell of a ticket.

Of course you have "people" (I use that term very loosely) like Anne Coulter who will attempt to disparage his war record, but the very fact that Cleland is missing three limbs he gave for this country is enough to counter her vitriole.

13. He'd be good:
It's hard to try to minimize wounds (people who earn purple hearts are hit by bullets!) when three of his limbs are missing. Plus, he's a great guy. It'd be like Clinton picking Al Gore--a reinforcement of Kerry's strength: the fact that they've seen combat, and are likely to think twice before rushing into things. The fact that they both have an interest in international policy. Like Gore, it would be really an uphill battle to carry his homestate of Georgia...but it'd be a good contrast with the other side's candidates.

so excited I can barely work. He said, "They pose him with that smirk on his face". Said lots of Repubs are coming over. This is our VP.
