2. been meaning to see it but haven't had the chance yet...
it's about a young girl in Afghanistan (?) who has to dress like a boy in order to earn money for the family... true story if I'm not mistaken, and a very interesting look at a lifestyle that by its very nature is normally unseen

3. Incredibly tragic story of an Afghan girl
Shows life under the Taliban for women. Because there are no men in the family, the little girl has to dress as a boy to support her family. She takes the name Osama.

Bush is promoting it for propaganda purposes, but it is actually a really good, if depressing, story told by Afghan filmmakers.

5. Bush is promoting it?
But its subtitled. Are you trying to tell me that fraudulent phucker is claiming he actually READ the subtitles in a foreign language film? Haha, what a liar.

6. It shows clearly the repression of the Taliban government
Bush would be "promoting" the film because he sees it as an evidence of why we were justified in overthrowing the Taliban from Afghanistan.

You know how concerned all those Christian conservatives are with women's rights, right?

7. Yeah, the malAdmin was so concerned
they sponsored the Taliban tour of the US to the tune of $40million plus in 2001.

9. Conservatives admire the Taliban. They love it
They brutally hold power, they opress, they are near-totalitarian rule, they treat women like crap, and they force their twisted view of their religion on people.

Truly, the only problem that most neo-cons have with the Taliban is that they are muslim.

8. Funny thing is...
...is one goes back into the "pre-S11" archives here at DU, one will find a good number of threads on how horrible the Taliban were, especially around the time they were blowing up the Buddha statues, and a good deal of outrage that the Bush administration was saying NOTHING in condemnation of them. Fuck the opportunist fraud Bush.

4. It has absolutely nothing to do with bin Laden...
The movie is about a girl growing up in Afghanistan under the Taliban who pretends to be a boy in order to escape mysogynist oppression. From what I've heard and seen about it, it is supposed to be extremely powerful.
