Mordechai Vanunu - Israeli Whistleblower Released
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 11:27 AM by redqueen
He was released from prison, and is being restricted from leaving Israel or speaking with foreign nationals.

Why is Israel treated differently wrt their nuclear program? Does the IAEA inspect their facilities?

on edit: I trust this won't be moved to I/P as it is about Israel's nuclear program, and has nothing to do with Palestine.

Here's a link to a story about his release:

Vanunu's opponents turn violent as nuclear whistleblower is freed

SHIKMA PRISON, Israel (AFP) - Jublilant cries of "hero" were mingled with hate-filled threats of violence as Mordechai Vanunu walked to freedom after 18 years in prison for lifting the lid on Israel's nuclear programme.

(snip)

Until then, the police had largely turned a blind eye to the violent ranting of Vanunu's opponents, allowing them to get much closer to the prison gates than the well-wishers.

Shortly before his release, friends and well-wishers released a flock of doves into the air and handed out flowers, largely ignoring the verbal racket kicked up by anti-Vanunu protestors, who bombarded them with racist slurs.

(snip)

Israeli officials confirmed Tuesday that Vanunu would be subjected to an unprecedented set of stringent security restrictions which would bar him from leaving the country, from approaching any port or airport or making contact with foreigners without prior authorisation.

4. Yeah?
Like the UN resolution that equates Zionism with Racism?

Dictionary.com says zionism is "A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel."

In fact, the resolutions of the First Zionist Congress, which can be found here, http://www.mideastweb.org/basleprogram.htm , are...

The Basle Zionist Program
Zionism seeks to establish a home for the Jewish people in Eretz-Israel secured under public law. The Congress contemplates the following means to the attainment of this end:

1) The promotion by appropriate means of the settlement in Eretz-Israel of Jewish farmers, artisans, and manufacturers.

2) The organization and uniting of the whole of Jewry by means of appropriate institutions, both local and international, in accordance with the laws of each country.

3) The strengthening and fostering of Jewish national sentiment and national consciousness. Preparatory steps toward obtaining the consent of governments, where necessary, in order to reach the goals of Zionism

That's Zionism. Not killing Arabs...not exterminating all Palestinians, just the creation of a Jewish state in Israel...that's it.

3. Are other countries with nuclear programs treated this way?
Which other countries with nuclear weapons programs are not inspected by the IAEA?

8. I guess that settles it, then
The Arabs have a point about Americans and their unfair support for Israel.
