I am looking for and needing help from Dallas DU'ers.
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 11:12 AM by anarchy1999
We have started a weekly protest in front of the Halliburton Offices in North Dallas on every Friday from noon until 2:00pm (I am actively campaigning to change the time to be from 4:00 to 7:00-7:30, everyone is in support), but I need help for the next couple of Fridays, noon to 2:00 as we make the transition.

Are there any Dallas area DU'ers that can come and take part? I'm begging you please. PM me or just go to activism and I will be putting info up there. Last Thursday, I must admit, I was disappointed. I do not think there was a single DU'er there, please correct me if I am wrong.

1. You might want to also post this in the new Texas forum.

That'll get you a few more eyeballs in Texas.

4. Can't help you there. Just the reason why I am trying to change the time.
If it were to be 4:00/4:30 to 7:00/7:30 you could at least make it for part. 12:00 noon to 2:00 in this area of Dallas is just damn near impossible for us all on a weekly basis. Shift to later in the day and it is easy for everyone! EUREKA! We have a plan, Stan.

War protesters target Halliburton's Carrollton offices

By Stacy Wright , Staff Writer 04/21/2004

The protesters, coordinated by the Dallas Peace Center, wanted to draw attention to the war in Iraq and the profits they believe huge corporations such as Halliburton, a major provider of oil and gas products and services, are making from the war.

Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root runs food lines, washes laundry, delivers mail, builds bases and performs other duties in Iraq. KBR also provides Iraq with gasoline. Halliburton holds U.S. government contracts in Iraq valued at $9 billion.

The company is facing allegations that it is overcharging the government. The U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Defense are investigating the fuel charges.

snip:

"Halliburton is getting away with both war crimes and accounting crimes," state Rep. Lon Burnam (D-Fort Worth) said. He said the group picked Thursday - the day income tax returns were due -- to start protesting to show people how many tax dollars are being spent in Iraq. Burnam said there is a war profit and he believes it's being run out of the president's office.

snip to the end:

Page said nobody knows what's going on and that's the problem - the lack of transparency.

Jawad said Congress need to have hearing and investigate or perhaps re-enact the excess profits tax.

Protestors plan to meet outside of Halliburton offices - on Belt Line Road near Webb Chapel -- from noon to 2 p.m. every Friday throughout the summer. "So many people just don't know," said Sherry Bollenbacher, coordinator of the protest. "We need to educate people and get more people involved."
