Gay Days Hits Sour Note With Band Members' Parents
Kearney, Nebraska) It was to have been the trip they would remember for the rest of their lives. The Kearney High School Band was to play at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Students have been holding fundraisers to get the money to pay for the June trip, and excitement at the school is already high.

But, when some parents discovered that the day the band was to march through the famous theme park coincided with Gay Days they pulled their children from the trip.

Shelly Rodehorst cancelled the trip for her son and daughter. Her teenaged son is a percussionist and her daughter, a junior clarinet player

1. I have been to WDW during Gay days
It is no big deal. We took my inlaws and they did not really notice or care. The events are listed on a website and there is so much to do at WDW, it is easy to avoid or ignore these events.

3. Thats my point exactly!
The real fun is at night at the local Gay bars. Yes I can see parents not wanting their children to go their.

I go to This even every year. & I applaud Disney for not caving in.

6. Oh good grief
As a Straight mother of a son who if ever invited to play
at DisneyLand on the same day as "Gay Days" would be
just as excited for my son as I would be on any other day .

Good Grief people's ignorance truly amazes me at times .

7. I can very well understand why the parents would....

..stop their innocent children from attending such an event.
I mean, what if these Gay people attacked their children and forced them to play Doris Day songs or something?? :)

8. My half-sibs are from there...
I think one of them was in the band.
Not surprised. Nebraska is as RW as it is flat and uninteresting.

11. I hope the band director finds replacements for those students
so that the band will go full sound anyway. To get that far into the process and have closed-minded jerk-offs sabotage the band like this...x( I was fortunate to have the opportunity to march at DW twice. We worked Very hard putting together the best sound and formation of which we were capable.

With the value of the £ and € I have not seen more Europeans at Disney,off-season is old or fat locals who do not spend as much. They will put up with public displays of affection because happy people spend more.Unhappy news about America does not help sell a holiday and new passport requirements cost more than the airfare. There are upper class Brazilians that keep me home during the summer which Disney loves because they fill the hotels.Gay Days means it is becoming existentially hot and humid,so put on sunscreen at 9am and piss clear.
