Media Hypocrisy (and they bitch about an alleged Liberal media bias)
I know this is old news, but I am always wondering why Jenna Bush got off virtually scot-free, when anybody else would have received some type of reprimand. Miss Bush obtained a fake ID and proceeded to use the ID to purchase beer at a local nightclub. For the most part, we did not see this in the headlines and he media was rather silent regarding the incident and even Rush Limbaugh who used his nationally-syndicated show to disrespect Clinton and gleefully bash him, was remarkably silent as well.

The 1st Family stated that was a "private family matter". That's all fine and good and I do not have a problem with that. But the beef I have is the fact that the same consideration was not given to Clinton. That too was a private family matter to be discussed by former President Clinton, Hillary and Chelsa but Congress wanted to embarrass and humiliate Clinton and used non-stop media coverage to ram it down our throat non-stop for months and months.

But, in my humble opinion, if Chelsa Clinton or the Gore daughters did what Jenna Bush did, then the media would have had another circus and would be ramming the story down our throat 24/7, once again and Rush Limbaugh would be hogging the air-waves lamenting about the "lack of parental morals and ethics" in the 1st Family and would ask how could America trust the President to lead them when he could not even guide his own daughter.

But since it happened to a Republican, it was OK to turn a blind eye because "Everybody did what Jenna Bush did". By that same token, adultery is running rampant and even *ahem* esteemed members (and I use that word loosely) of Congress are just as guilty as well, so should Clinton have been left alone because after all, he too, did not do what many were not doing themselves. But Congress chose to be hypocrites and used the media as the ultimate weapon against Clinton. Clinton was not doing anything that anybody else on Capitol Hill was not doing himself or herself. Clinton just made the mistake of getting caught.

Can you imagine the conservative response if Chelsea Clinton or the Gore Daughters was to pose for Playboy centerfold? They would scream from the rooftops about the "failure of a liberal upbringing" and how it proves the "moral collapse of liberal parenting". Yet when Reagan's daughter Patti Davis did just that, they (the media) were silent. And as for Rush, Jerry Falwell and Dr. Laura, they did not utter a peep about it nor was she publicly condemned.

If it were anybody else (anybody who is non-GOP) the media and Congress would have burned them at the stake. And who can forget when Rev. Jimmy Swaggart was caught with a prostitute and during his church sermon was bawling like a school-girl and said, “I have sinned against you, Oh Lord". But there was no outcry from the people. There was no mass hysteria from the media. There was no lynch mob from Congress. There was no public condemnation for his action. His character was not called into question. He became as popular and revered as ever before.

In Clinton's defense, at least Monica was not a whore like the one the "good reverend" was shacking up with. But people were on a Clinton witch-hunt. Talk about hypocrisy at its finest. Why is ok to make him into a saint when making Clinton into a Satan for doing the same thing (ok so Monica was not a bona-fide hooker, but you get the idea). Because Swaggart was a card-carrying GOP and since that was the case, it was OK to turn a blind eye. Why is OK for one group of people to commit a "crime" but not ok for anybody else to commit the same "crime"? I think that it is very hypocritical for Congress to have had a witch-hunt when they themselves are guilty of the same crimes. I am not saying I approve of what Clinton has done, but why could the same respect not have been shown to him?

Don't praise one and crucify the other for committing the same "crime". That's not democracy. That's just plain hypocrisy. Either judge us all by the same laws and standards, or don't judge anybody at all..
