After Vietnam, they changed the rules to make a future draft fairer. Draftees would only be under the gun for 1 year in most scenarios, the year they turn 20.

Since there are 1.8 million males turning 20 every year, I can't for the life of me imagine a need to draft other age groups and certainly Rangel's bill is unfeasible logistically. You can't draft every man and woman in the 18-26 age group. There would be 30 million men and women that would be immediately drafted under that scenario.

1. No, of course not
The whole point of a draft supplying bodies for an endless and stupidly fought imperial war is to reduce the surplus population of mindless drones, and that means working class people, not the precious offspring of the wealthy and powerful.

They really feel themselves innately superior for having inherited wealth and family connections. They really think they can live without us and the work we do.

The only use a Bush Repuglican sees for any member of the working class is as either a slave or a target. The draft combines the two.

2. How true Warpy
Very well put.. It's my understanding that Selective Service is already hard at work preparing. I also read that they will draft anyone up to the age of 44 if you have skills they need. The skills mentioned so far were computer expert and linguist... I wonder what the "they knew what they were getting into when they enlisted" people are going use as an excuse for dead soldiers when the draft gets re-instated.

3. If you make over $200,000/year then
your son or daughter won't be drafted. Unless, ofcourse, you live in a "blue state". I hate W, he makes me too cynical.
