Democracy, freedom, unity, liberty
These are words that Bush uses to purvey what the US wants to accomplish in Iraq.
I read an interesting article by Nobel peace prize winner Abadi(sorry if the spelling is incorrect - the Iranian woman)
She stated that democracy is not a tidbit or morsel to be handed out by the US, but something that is hardfought for, as is freedom.
If we look at Iraq, we know that this tribal society with its diversities with Shiites, Sunni and Kurds - makes it almost impossible to have a functioning democracy, unless they are united. There was talk of actually splitting Iraq into three distint regions - one in the north for Kurdistan(which would upset the turks), one in the south for the Shia, and one in the east(?) for the Sunni.
Fallujah has changed the scenario. Iraqi's are not as dissident to each other as they were. They are uniting, and they are fighting. The civil war the US warns about is becoming illusionary. It is an attempt to frighten the people of Iraq into submitting to the occupation demands. It will never happen. BUT, what is happening is that these diverse people are uniting as they once did before to oust the British.

Bush grand vision of Iraq is democracy - perhaps if the people of Iraq put aside their own regional and religeous differences, they will snatch it up. Perhaps the occupation, the enemy in their midst will make them fight hard enough to take their freedom, and with a unified voice, declare their independence from the occupation, and also with a unified voice declare their vision of what they want Iraq to be. Sistani will not be able to sooth the Shia for much longer.

1. Perhaps our country needs to

open it's eyes to the resources at hand. There is significant evidence that several of the "founding fathers" (most importantly, Franklin & Jefferson) used the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy as the model for our country. Listen: just as bush can't POSSIBLY talk the language of reconciliation, and thus the Rev. Jesse Jackson is the BEST HOPE to bring home American "hostages," doesn't it make sense for President Kerry to EXPAND on this theme, and rely on some of the traditional Iroquois leaders TODAY to talk to the tribal peoples of Iraq about forging a united Islamic Confederate State? Is this not 1000 times more likely to succeed than the Halliburton plan? Please read a post a bit further down the forum from here, in which I posted a quote from Onondaga Chief Oren Lyons, on a related topic.
