I think any draft will give people an alternative such as the peace corps

Rangel's bill allows for those who don't want to fight this kind of out. Either go to Iraq or do a two year stint in the peace corps or americorps or something productive that is non-violent.

It's the only way a draft would fly with the country, I think.

I think of Hitler Youth.

Once the precedent is set, the requirements could be changed at any time. How about, in order to prepare the young for enlistment in a fine adult organization, they are forced to participate in some patriotic after school group on a regular basis.
