What We're Up Against: Bush Gets TRIPLE The Amount of Coverage
on TV than Kerry gets.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A22713-2004Apr18.html

When President Bush delivered a routine stump speech to a group of New Mexico homeowners on March 26, CNN and Fox News each carried his appearance for 35 minutes, and MSNBC for 33 minutes.

When John Kerry gave what was billed as a major address on national security at George Washington University on March 17, he was knocked off the screen by a large explosion in Baghdad. CNN and Fox each dropped Kerry (who had been reduced to small box) after three minutes, and MSNBC never picked him up. But as the Iraq coverage continued, all three networks carried Vice President Cheney in California attacking Kerry as weak on national security -- Fox for 28 minutes, MSNBC for 23 and CNN for 13.

--snip--

Not that we didn't already know this, but there it is. It's going to be an uphill battle, but it's one we must win.

1. I hate to play devil's advocate
But I'm going to anyway. Bush is still the President, Kerry is the presumptive nominee. It seems somewhat fair that the sitting President should get more coverage still, at least until Kerry officially is the nominee. At that point, I would hope we get more balanced coverage of both, and the issues they are addressing. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

2. add to that the ability of
the conservatives to listen to the mindless drivel that pours out of *'s mouth and yet not hear what he is actually saying. Example: the rave reviews that the press conference gets from the rightwing. They just look at him and drool.

3. Their Excuse "the power of incumbency"
and Rove will put Jr. out there everyday if he has to, just to suck the air out of Kerry's campaign.

4. Of course he does....
He is the POTUS. The president, no matter who it is, will always get all of the coverage he/she wants.

7. Think of it as a plus
The more people experience his smirky crap, the more they'll start waking up.

8. Get used to it.
That's how it's going to be for the next six months and maybe forever. Anything to preempt the Democrat and advance the Republican is the unwritten rule of thumb.

9. There is simply NO EXCUSE for carrying 100% of his
"disguised" campaign speeches in front of banners. The media can summarize and include clips, just like they do with anyone else.

He has a right to have a televised press conference, but NOT to promote his program speeches which have only a tidbit of new stuff, if that. Carrying Bush or Cheney for a whole speech...showing their whoredom.
