Look how someone wants to stop the recall!
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 02:30 PM by ih8thegop
Sorry if this is a dupe, but it's funny!

Software executive Stuart Vance is an opponent of the attempt to recall California Governor Gray Davis (D). Vance thinks he has an ingenious way to derail the recall election: make it an absolute impossibility to conduct with a list of recall replacement candidates so long that none of the approved voting machines could handle a ballot of that size. Think of it as "a denial-of-service attack on the recall," says Vance, referring to the term when Internet servers get so swamped with activity that they crash because of the overload. He wants more than 1,000 people to run in the recall election and he's created a website -- run-for-governor.org -- to help more people jump into the race. "Imagine a ballot with 1,000 candidates for governor ... Help extend the absurdity of this recall election to its logical extreme," says a message on the site. More than 300 folks have already filed information with the state indicating that they all plan to run. Filing closes August 9.

4. Can't find a link but heard on CNN
That there is another website encouraging people with the same names to politicians and public figures. They are looking for another Darrell Issa and an Arnold Schwarzenneger.

5. That's the dumbest idea I've seen yet
The secretary of state will simply go to multiple volumes - As many books and cards as necessary.

7. It doesn't matter
it will still be confusing as hell.

Remember, there is no provision in the law that says that Issa's name has to be at the top. If they sort the names alphabetically, he will be in the middle. If you get a couple of thousand people on the ballot, it will be a mess.

8. Yes, and a mess is NOT what we want
It's bad enough that the recall is happening in the first place. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot by trying to make it a cluster fuck.

10. It's already a cluster %$#*
The election laws in California made it that by providing for an election with no primaries and no run off election. Exposing the system for what it is will work in the favor of democracy in the long run.

Caveat Emptor: I live in Florida so you may not want to take my advice vis-a-vis elections.

6. I actually had this idea last week,
but not the part about making the machines unusable. I just figured that if you got 300 names on the recall ballot, it would make the election too confusing.
