The dirty little secret is out. The Kurds have been thrown at the Iraqi
insurgents. When the dust settles, the very thing that Bush said his regime would not allow to happen will happen. There will be no unified Iraq.

"Guerrillas coming out of Fallujah have complained bitterly that Kurdish militiamen known as pesh merga are deployed against them. The Kurds are members of the 36th Battalion of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps, built from several exile-based militias that supported the U.S.-led campaign against Saddam Hussein. Commanders of another, overwhelmingly Arab Iraqi army battalion refused to fight alongside the Marines."

1. This is a disaster
The very people who complain that leaving Iraq now would incite a civil war are the ones pushing Iraqis to kill other Iraqis. We should applaud, not condemn, Iraqis who refuse who shoot at their fellow citizens. What happens if the Kurds start killing Iraqis that the U.S. hasn't pre-approved? Should we then go after the Kurds? What a mess.

3. I think Bushco* WANT a civil war
That would allow them to throw up their hands and say, "Until the Iraqis settle their war between themselves, we can't help them".
Then they can pull out troops until the "Iraqis work it out".

5. I think you are closer to the truth than you realize. You are right.
That's the only way we can bow out.

6. Expect some V-Day type parades
coming to your area this July and August.

W will make a big deal that the mission in Iraq is over. We removed Saddam and his WMD's. So now we can drawdown our presence and we will focus on protecting our new bases and the oil infrastructure. The rest of the country can go to hell because W has an election to win.

2. Divide and conquer has been used in Iraq forever...

That's why, when news came that Sunnis and Shi'a were uniting against the occupation, the US troops "found" documents that purported to say that Sunnis were planning attacks on the Shi'a.

4. classic misdirection
Job One for this gang of lying thieves is to loot the treasury--just like Poppy did. It is so much easier to steal when we are all looking somewhere else.

10. I don't think a unified Iraq is necessarily the best outcome
A democratic Kurdistan, Shia state, and Iraq side-by-side would work, imo.

11. The problem is that it's not geopolitically feasible...well unless they*
draw the boundaries like the GOP does for congressional districts.
:eyes:

There seems to be little or no oil in the "sunni triangle"...

* and this of course begs the question: who "they" are..
