The Troops Are Revolting!!! (perhaps!)

Martica - 07:38pm Jul 3, 2003 CST (#89 of 197)
As a mother of one of our brave troops in Iraq, may I just say, Mr. President, Perhaps you truly do believe in the invincibility of our military; however, the next time you invite attacks on my son, and others, kindly stand in front of our soldiers, rather than hiding behind.
(snip)

And this from a father of a soldier stationed in Iraq:
"My son is in the U.S.Army and currently stationed in Baghdad. I hear from him every three or four days. He is like most of the young men and women who went to fight over there inasmuch as he was proud to go and achieve what President Bush said was necessary. I have seen his attitude take a U-turn during the last month..."

"...allow me to give you his remarks when he was informed of President Bush's brash remarks saying "Bring them on." He said:

"Myself and every last man in my unit are deeply offended that our President would make such a statement inviting us to be attacked. President Bush has lost the respect of every soldier I have spoken to because of his speaking those irresponsible words. Those words spread like wild-fire amoung the troops. We are here because he ordered us to be here and now for him to make such a ridiculous statement inviting violence towards us causes us to lose respect for him and his judgement. We are learning that we never should have come here in the first place. Believe me Dad, there is a completely different attitude now. The fact that the President gave rich people a tax cut and didn't do anything for military families is hurtful. Where there was once pride and satisfaction in defeating an enemy there is now regret and shame. God Bless America..."

Your loving Son, Donny

At the rate he's going, * can kiss the military vote goodbye.

:skull:

2. What?
You mean the troops weren't bucked up by El Presidente's Proclamation exhorting them to fight to the last bullet, the last man? They didn't appreciate the 8x10 glossies of their fearless leader that fluttered down upon them while they were bartering the best parts of their packages from home for some cool water? Time to attach a political officer to each unit, that'll keep those defeatists in line.

4. Jesus..
that letter from the soldier nearly brought tears to my eyes. It's one thing to sit safely behind my desk and tsk tsk tsk at Bush for saying 'Bring it on' but I never fully thought about what those soldiers would feel. I've never doubted that any of them who went over did so with full confidence that their President wouldn't put them in harms way unless it truly served to protect the United States. That is why we honor 'the troops' not because we agree with the action they are currently involved in but because they are at the cutting edge of policy. Their blood, sweat, and tears defend this country and they do so out of loyalty and faith that the President wouldn't risk them for specious reasons.

To suddenly have that faith shaken... that is rough. They still have a job to do, and they still have to keep themselves alive.

We need to remove Bush from power so we can renew the bond of loyalty, renew these soldier's faith in their Commander-in-Chief.

5. I think the military vote IS already GONE
Sounds like they realize the poor are sent to fight the wars of the rich. I suppose though, that the least Bush could have done was sent all his hard-sacrificed chocolate rations over to his beloved troops.

6. They only get 2 liters of water for drinking AND bathing
Of course they're revolting!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

It is so sad what the chimp in chief has done to these kids, many either limited in career choices, or idealistic in their goal to protect the country. Their disillusionment must be very painful.

12. I work with two retired military recruiters
Those recruiters are absolutely RUTHLESS they are worse than the slimest used car salesmen. They make my skin crawl. They tell this kids that they will get paid, they will get free school, they will get help buying a home, and they will get to travel the world, all they have to do is give a few years for their country. Little did we know that * would be elected and send these kids off to die in a desert so that he could complete his crazy imperialist agenda. "Bring it on"... ugh! it sickens me to think about it. It's easy for him to say when his daughters are safely protected by the secret service and drunk and stoned in texas. But I am glad that he is showing his true colors. You'd think that they'd catch on sooner, but then again, this time what he's saying is directly effecting them, it must be okay when he is talking crazy to another country or the UN... I can't wait for 2004. Maybe this will seem like a bad dream.

13. A sudden thought about this...
We all anticipate the deserter doing something that will end in him declaring martial law shortly before the elections. My question now is, if said scenario takes place, will the military back him or revolt (to any degree at all)?

If those he would depend on to point guns at fellow citizens are so pissed off that they decline to participate in his stage show, then perhaps we have a better chance to be rid of him when the time comes. (Note: "Being rid of him" is meant in the legalistic sense, not as any sort of physical threat against the deserter.)
