The situation in Iraq reminds me of what a Serbian friend said

She married an Englishman and had moved to the UK before the wars broke out in what was still Yugoslavia (he whole family still lives in Serbia). She was upset at what was happening in her country. She said the problem was, all of the intellectuals had left the country and thugs and gangsters had taken over. To consolidate support for the wars, they put the most inexperienced soldiers on the front lines to guarantee casualties. Once the coffins started coming home, the people fell in line because they didn't want to think that the sacrifice had been for nothing.

I guess people didn't want to touch it since it had the word "Serbia" in it. She was devestated by what her countrymen had done by the way.
