that Air America leases airtime in?

from the article

Air America, which leases radio stations in 16 cities, filed a complaint in New York State Supreme Court demanding it be restored to the air and compensated.

5. It's not 16 cities yet. They have 6 affiliates with 10 more on the way.
Check Air America's website for updates:

http://www.airamericaradio.com

Just click "Find a Station." It'll be at the left side of your screen.

18. Santa Fe Woohoo!!
Our station KTRC went to hell after i.e. America shut down. The only decent show we get right now is Thom Hartmann. Course he's on the same time as Franken. Wonder how that'll work out.

I am glad Thom Hartmann is still on the air - that guy is a shining beacon of good works and knowledge. I love the tone of his show.

4. Did anyone else notice
they AA guy (he reminds me of Jon Stewart) said he ihas to go back to court tomorrow for something else, but he wasn;t saying what it was.

I thought AA could have been a little more professional about the whole thing. I wasn't crazy about the seemingly immature reaction to the whole thing.

Anyway, they should dump this Multicultural guy Liu all together and get another station.

9. They need to go back to court
to get a preliminary injunction. A TRO or temporary restraining order is meant to last only a short time, until the parties can argue the merits of the dispute. AAR will likely have to show a "likelihood of success on the merits" to obtain a preliminary injunction. It sounds like AAR has a strong case.

11. Radio is a cut throat business. I want them to let everyone know that
Liberals don't take no SHIT. And that they can't eff with us. They played hardball right back.

No one will think that AAR is a push over or that they are SUCKAS.

I think they played it right.

The are on the air aren't they?

That Liu guy is a wingnut hack who thought he could push'em over.

GOOD FOR AAR!

15. that's great but the Randi
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 11:21 PM by Must_B_Free
described it as business men butting heads. SHe didn;t say it was wingnut vs. lefties... And the AA guy also said it was a shakedown - i.e. stealing money. He didn't say it had to do with politics either. We're just so used to repugs playing dirty tricks we assume it must be political. (Plus the fact that they should be scared, we're opening the shades on their dracula!)

14. You seem VERY, VERY concerned about AAR
I've noticed that every day for almost a week you are posting your concerns about how unprofessional they are. Randi Rhodes is rude, Liu should be dumped, etc....

It's a good thing we have you to look out for our interests.

19. You are consistenly wrong with your reasoning
Liu SHOULD be dumped. He doesn't have AA's interest at heart, or so we say. So what's wrong with saying that we should dump him? the guy SHUT US DOWN midstream. You want to keep him? WHY?

BTW you never replied to my last email did you?

7. You knew it wouldn't last long?
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 11:10 PM by TheWizardOfMudd
This isn't rocket science. Companies lease radio stations all of the time. In my town, Oklahoma City, the Clear Channel station dominated talk radio for years. The Gaylord family swooped down, purchased a very powerful station in town, changed the format to talk, and seriously cut into Clear Channel's market in the state.

Lo and behold, a year or two later, Clear Channel entered into a five year agreement with the Gaylords to lease the station. It happens.

But what I REALLY WANT TO KNOW is how you knew it wouldn't last long.

How did you know that?

had no valid basis for shutting down the Chicago station based on a contractual dispute involving the LA station?

20. I'm not saying I was on the inside
But the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of Air America from the airwaves in those two cities were too vague to stand. I think everyone here knew the ban wouldn't last long.

24. I see this as the same 'shotgun' approach the RW uses in propaganda
It has been brought up before here at DU that the RW releases lots of attacks at liberals that don't stick. That isn't important to them, what is important is that a couple of them do, and that the press is busy filling space/time with articles about accusations of liberal wrongdoing.

This attack (IMHO) on AAR wasn't meant to stick. The RW just wanted to get a story about AAR being 'iffy' in the media. I expect more of the same between now and November.

After that, the business community will realize that there is a LOT of money to be made running counter-RW stations, and come back on board.

12. Pretty good
I like this from the article:

"Arthur Liu received a clear message in court," Cohen said. "Temper tantrums are not the way to conduct business."

Cohen said he purchased two months of airtime on KBLA in Santa Monica, California, before Air America's March 31 launch, but the station owner resold the time to a Spanish-language programer."
