9. Thank Goodness Mod Ain't RUSSERT or STEPHI
Intro applause: Big for DEAN, bigger for GEPHARDT, big for KUCINICH

Not big for the rest. Am looking for the moments from the earlier threads: DEAN stealing "all votes counted" thunder from LIEBERMAN, KUCINICH angry?

Uh-oh: "Four of you voted for (NAFTA). Senator KERRY, if it were before you today, would you vote for it." No.

Sharpton re over-time and Bush saying only 6000 will lose but labor says millions will.

We can't let this admin start gradual ways to erode wages earned by workers. Not let them get us into a distracted debate about how many will be hurth by this rather than that people will get hurt. This is a human rights issue

People must be paid for their work. No compromise. Need to stop Reagan's legacy that G Bush is carrying on.

Breathing FIRE, first things he would do as prez will be cancel NAFTA and WTO-----then, making friends, "Ask these others if they will. DEAN will you? GEPHARDT you voted for WTO. Let's find out tonight. Answer the question."

The mod, EDWARDS from NPR, is relaxed and funny. Said, "It's a good thing I didn't ask you FIRST. I'm sure they will all want to answer you...in their closing statements."

GEPHARDT is in his element and his prime. But they're all good. BRAUN is talking well.

Yeah, he was too ascerbic. He's got to cut down on that and use it judiciously. Unfortunately, I don't have his ear. He's much better in an individual forum, like the Harkin/Iowa Forum. Did you hear that one when it was all Kucinich. He was great. No yelling and he went over much, much better. Standing ovations. Small crowd, though. Hope lots of people watched.

20. Health Care 41 Million Americans uninsured
Dean: In VT, 99% of kids under 18 are eligible, 96% signed up. Says we are 2nd class citizens of the Industrialized world on this issue and this needs to change. rescind Bush tax cut and put that money in Health insurance. Wants to model US system on what he did in VT.

(missed some)

Gephardt: all employers offer health care plans to all employees. Will rescind Bush tax cut to pay for this. No one should have anxiety about losing this. Personal story about how health insurance helped save his son's life. Health Plan is a moral issue. It's immoral to have anyone without Health Insurance in this country.

Braun: Health Care insurance should not be tied to employment. Single payer system we need to cover every American. We spend more for Health insurance, 15%, than any other system in the world being wasted in admin costs and profit. My plan won't increase cost- we need to reform it. Comprehensive change to have single-payer system like Canada, New Zealand....

25. Health Care - Kucinich & Lieberman & Kerry & Sharpton
Kucinich: is a great social and economic cause. We've failed miserably (explains why). Howard (Dean), Tax cuts are no fix- they still leave big co-pays, medicine bills... We're paying for a system we're not getting. 1.4 Trillion dollars wasted. We need to reclaim our system from the Pharma and insurance companies and I'm the man to do it.

Lots of applause and cheers.

Lieberman: step by step health care improvement program . Let's expand the CHIPs program for kids. I've been listening to the workers... COBRA too much... will introduce a plan in a few weeks that if you lose your job you won't lose your health insurance.

Kerry: has plan that will dave $1000 per family in premiums. bigger, bolder vision than Joe's. National journals, independent group of expersts judge his plan the most feasible. For every American- the same plan the President, Senators, give themselves.
163 million people get their Health Care at work but every wage increase goes into health care. Govt mus pay for it taking back the tax cut GB gave these companies. Tax savings on this 10 times what GB gives Americans.

Sharpton:

Health care must be a constitutional right in this country. Right to guns, prayer and all- no, need quality healthcare to be a constitutional right. Should not have a 15 trillion $ economy and people have no health care! 25% of the money we spend on Health Care wasted on paper. Health Care must be the issue of 2004

role of Govt is to help ALL students with access to equal qualitry education and not to select who will get this.

Rescind Bush's tax cuts (Enron & off-shore companies) to pay for this. We have an AG that can't find corporate criminals but can put every labor leader in the Union Movement under investigation.

30. Pensions

Edwards:
Too much money at the top and not enough at the bottom, same with pensions and pension security. Need corporate reform and pension parity, CEO pay too high need to reform this, democratize Board of Directors in this country so that workers have a voice in their pension, benefits and rights.

Graham:
(says what Bush did) How does one generation treat with dignity and respect the next- especially the elderly, Need to not let privatization destroy social security like it did 401Ks, need pension protection for all, all pensions should be guaranteed by Federal govt

Dean:
Wealthy americans should be paying their fair share of SSN to that it can survive. (tells a story Pensions,,, Wal-Mart) fire boards to protect people, corporations shouldn't be rating the pension funds because it doesn't belong to them. Complete pension reform so we have portable pensions when people change jobs.

Kucinich:
Pension money doesn't belong on Wall Street. Block privatization of social security. Retirement age needs to go back to 65 w/ 100% benefit. Calls Dean on calling retirement age to 68 or 70. Challenges others to promise to SS solid to year 2041 with no changes whatsoever to it. Will not allow the privatization of Social Security. (lots, lots of applause)

Kerry:
peoblem with huge salaries at top and even bigger bonuses, write offs and benefits while they rape the workers and their 401Ks plummet. Gives some real life examples. Basically says the rich are stealig from the workers. That's trickle down economics and every worker in the US is tired of being trickled on by GW Bush.

46. Kucinich on Labor
Workers Rights I will hold inviolate. Raight to organize, strike, bargaining, safe workplace, secure retirement, so all workers can have an uplifted standard of living.

Right now, right to work only means right to work for less.

Will use power of White House to protect workers.

Will repeal Taft Hartley.

When half of the workers sign up wanting to unionize then union is automatic.

Reps from Dept of Labor must come from Labor.

52. Why in hell didn't they cheer when he proposed repeal of Taft-Hartley?
I mean, this is a labor audience, right? Don't they know what he just said?

I feel as though the audience did not fully grasp how astoundingly pro-labor the positions Dennis just outlined are!! It's either that he's speaking too quickly, or the audience is just not responsive after hearing a whole evening full of speechifying. But it really seems to me, they should have received what he just said with wild enthusiasm, not just polite applause.

62. Sharpton closing
Since my pre-teenage years have fought for corporate accoutability and civil rights.

Labor and others marched for MLK's dream but 40 yrs later still see a huge gap between the top and bottom, we still have a country that won't deal equally with labor and laborers

We need to back to what we were(LEFT) and focus on things that are people based.

I was there with blood and sweat on the line.

The secret is that I'm the conservative on this stage.

We need to conserve Affirmative Action
Conserve Roe vs Wade
Conserve workers right to organize
We must conserve what we won these last 50 years
and to conserve it, to conserve it VOTE FOR SHARPTON in the Democratic Primary. (cheers and lots of applause- the best orator up there!)

67. Kucinich Closing

((Tons of applause before he even begins, yes! ))

The bible says, the last shall be first.

My brothers and sisters, you know me, I never forgot my worker roots.

With labor's help, I defeated an incumbent Republican Senator, with labor's help, I defeated an incumbent Republican Congressman, with labor's help, I defeated an incumbent Republican (forget), and with labor's help, I will defeat an incumbent Republican president.

I guarantee a Worker's White House.

We saved jobs, so many, steal, Muny Light, Union,

Will issue an executive order to cancel NAFTA WTO

Will repeal Taft-Hartley
Ensure Universal HC
Ensure protection to fair labor rights
(missed something)
and end this (adjectives) war led by the lies and statements of this administration.

((Tons of applause again))
