<SNIP>Gore's speech plans trigger speculation

By James G. Lakely
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Former Vice President Al Gore will deliver a "major speech" on Iraq to a liberal activist group in New York tomorrow, fueling speculation that he will re-enter the race for the Democratic nomination for president.
A member of MoveOn.org said Mr. Gore approached the group, founded to battle President Bill Clinton's impeachment, a few weeks ago about setting up the event.
"He wanted to give the address and asked MoveOn to sponsor it," said the source, who requested anonymity. "He's going to be speaking out about a number of different issues, not just about the war."
The speech will be Mr. Gore's first major public statement on foreign policy since delivering a scathing critique of President Bush's Iraq policy at San Francisco's Commonwealth Club on Sept. 23. At the time, the United States was attempting to build support for going to war with Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq.<SNIP>

1. Even if he doesn't run, he needs to stay in the public eye
The more that he speaks out, the more the base is going to be energized.

2. Alternate headline: Moonies are scared Howard Dean might win.
(snip)

Brian Lunde, former executive director of the Democratic National Committee, characterized Mr. Gore's speech last year as a "sucker punch and run away." And while Mr. Gore might "get his shots in" on Thursday, Mr. Lunde said he doesn't expect Mr. Gore to match the volume of Mr. Dean's antiwar rhetoric.

Rather, the speech might be part of a plan to "provide cover for the mainstream Democratic candidates" and "help be a Dean slayer" by trying to move the momentum of the party away from the far left.

"He will warn the party," Mr. Lunde said. "I think there's growing concern that Howard Dean might not just be a flavor of the month, but be a real political movement."

the 'Mighty Wurlitzer' to honk a dissonant tune ....

Gore is a policy wonk ..... He LOVES to speechify about policy ....

Gore will not re-enter the race, no matter HOW MUCH I would like that ....

I would LOVE to eat my words ..... But I dont think I will need to ...

The sonorous cacaphony rises, and the people dance .....

Such pretty music ....

7. He might endorse someone else.
I doubt he would this early in the game, but who knows? That would give a leg up to the one endorsed.

9. Don't be shy Gore!
Gore is not trying to move the party away from the left?

He is actually helping keep the Bush bashing in the headlines as the media is getting bored with Dean, Graham, Kusinich, and Sharpton attacks, as well as the weaponsgate funeral.

I'm excited Gore is coming back to the spotlight and I hope he doesn't stay away like he did after his last major speech. Many people still think he is the true president and he should use that prestige to wipe the floor with duh'bya.

11. Dean is exciting and that is why the Establishment types are spreading
misinformation, like saying Gore will re-enter the Prez race. The Establishment is terrified of a populist revolt led by Dean.

I think that Al Gore will blast the Bush Administration over Iraq and their current policy. He will offer suggestions that the Democratic Prez candidate field can incorporate in their platforms in how to handle post-Saddam Iraq, should they win the White House next year. He will also advise MoveOn.org members what we can do to pressure the White House and Congress over resolving the Iraq debacle.

Al Gore will not cover for Al From, so I doubt that he will mimic Lieberman saying that the Iraq war was a "just" war. I believe that Al Gore wants Bush out next year and will do whatever he can to turn up the heat on the crooks running the White House.

13. Gore is just messing with the Moonies heads...
It's a great guerrilla tactic... He should reserve making a decision just to keep them confused...Any of the other 9 would make a great VP. :)

14. I agree
if he has any thoughts of entering the race I hope he keeps them guessing for as long as possible.

On the other hand if he is just using his ability to rile up the "liberal" media, I say thank you Al, you are a Gentleman and a Patriot.
