1. blog = web log
a sort of online diary. A frequently updated web page with entries marked by date and time, usually allowing comments by readers.

4. Blog is a combo of the words web log..
it's a thing where you can post whatever you want and people can comment on it. Sorta like a discussion board but whoever's blog it is posts are the main focus and others just comment whatever they wrote.

It's kind of a cross between a journal, bulletin board, and a discussion board.

weblog... an online journal. The first blogs tended to be personal and diary-like. Now, the word is morphing to refer primarily to sites where the authors post political commentary. The most popular blogs allow readers to comment (often at length) on the original post, with many readers commenting and adding background info and additional research. In that sense, blogs function very much like a discussion forum, but in a way that's focused by the blog owner/writer.
