The Alamo Vs. Fallujah
OK, other Duers have probably made this observation already, but I haven't run across it yet.

To wit, after having seen the new movie "The Alamo" this past weekend, and then after having read about the mess in Fallujah, one has to wonder:

Is "Remember Fallujah" about to become a rallying battle cry for something even uglier than the plug-ugly mess that BushCo has created with it's lies to get us into this war?

Some Troops Expect All-Out Fallujah Fight

<SNIP>

FALLUJAH, Iraq (AP) - Digging in around Fallujah, their three-day-old truce punctured by shelling, gunfire and well-orchestrated ambushes, U.S. Marines gave vent to their frustrations Tuesday, saying they saw no alternative to an all-out battle for the city.

With U.S.-backed Iraqi officials still talking with city leaders about ending the standoff, it's not for the troops to decide how this tangle of conflicting forces will unravel.

But as Marines traded gun and mortar fire with rooftop snipers and fighters on the northern edge of Fallujah, some of them anticipated a bloody push to take the city of 200,000 people, a stronghold of Sunni Muslim insurgents.

"If they're trying to find a peaceful way out of this, great. But at this point, there seem to be few options other than to get innocents out and level it, wipe it clear off the map," said 1st Lt. Frank Dillbeck, scanning the city's outskirts with binoculars during a relative lull in fighting.

1. Oh, they're entirely different:
uh, in someone else's land -- oops, the same there; well, arrogant Yankees expecting not to face much opposition -- oops, still the same; then, uh. Oh, they're just different, that's all! ;-)

But maybe you mean the battle cry later, as in 'remember the Alamo.' Yeah, that one was effective: rememeber when we first tried to steal part of Mexico, and a bunch of gringos got wiped out when faced by an organized military. True, that was used to invade and steal half of Mexico.

Oh, wait -- now I have it! Yes, the Alamo and Fallujah are entirely different because: the US only stole HALF of Mexico!

2. my 2 cents...
the alamo was the result of the mexican government over-taxing/evicting what were for the most part americans-turned-mexican citizens.

fallujah is the end result of fundamentalism versus colonialism. it's a completely different undertone for the conflict, but the odds are about the same.
