Churchill quotes we wish His Chimperial Highness would read
"The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events."

The script that His Chimperial Highness wants the American people to play from involves the plot of WWII -- the "appeasers" fall to the Nazis, leaving only the visionary Churchill to identify Hitler as the menace to civilization, and to "stand alone" against him.

Condi tells us time and time again that it took years to pacify Germany and Japan after the end of the actual war, and that OBVIOUSLY Iraq will someday be as an effective US ally as these countries are today.

Rush and Sean Insanity love to point out that the casualties we are taking in the Iraqi War are laughably piddling compared to the mammoth battle casualties of WWII. "Our serving men and women are safer in Iraq than they would be in California!"

Nevertheless, we must be "resolute" sez His Chimperial Highness-- because even though the war is getting worse and more difficult, that really means it's going well!

They will never be able to wage this very ambitious war "successfully" without popular support in the US. This will involve not only the (re)election of the Chimp in 2004 (popular vote this time and more than 50%), but also the Chimp going before the Congress and "uniting" them behind the utter genius of His Plan to eradicate terrorism forever by a long-term occupation and military transformation of the Middle East. If he's so fucking sure he's right about this, let him take his case before our Congress, which has a Republican majority, after all, and persuade them to get behind him in what is going to be a long and painful conflict. If he can get the Congress to declare war, then the country would truly be united in his effort. Come on, George, bring it on! Take your crusade to the Congress, and let's see if you're as brave as our soldiers and can win there, in the hearts and minds of the American people. But don't expect them to fight this war if you can't win it in the Congress.

Bush may be playing by the his Hollywood WWII script, but the Iraqis and elsewhere are reading from another one -- therefore the case cannot be made that what might well be WWIII -- waged in the Middle East this time -- will play out exactly as WWII.

The Bushistas believe they are "at war" against anti-American radical militant Islamic fundamentalism, but can traditional warfare prevail against this kind of obscure enemy? Will traditional warfare prevail over the techniques that terrorists use -- the use of small mobile bands of utterly determined fanatics with nothing to lose? If we are at the brink of a larger war, then truly, George -- show the American people your Plan. I'd love to see how it's going to work, and I'm afraid I am going to be skeptical about what you are up to.
