Scotties are small but tough terriers bred for killing vermin such as rats and badgers. They are rated by the experts among the five top guard dogs for their territoriality, fearlessness and strength of bite. Don't let their small stature fool you. They aren't named "The Diehard" for nothing. A Golden Retriever might welcome a burglar into your home and show him to the safe, but there's no way you'd get past a Scottie.

The most famous White House Scottie, Fala, was the inseparable companion of FDR. Other presidents who at one time owned Scotties included Teddy Roosevelt (Jessie), Dwight Eisenhower (who had two, Telek and Caacie), Ronald Reagan (also two, Scotch and Soda), and two First Ladies, Eleanor Roosevelt and Jackie Kennedy also had Scotties of their own.

Don't project the character of the owner onto the dog. And my tough-as-nails little Scottie is proud to be a DEMOCRAT!

My mother still talks about the time that she saw Laura B. giving a tour of the WH. She was going from one room into another. She looked at the dogs and said to them, " come on animals."

That made a tremendous negative impression on my mother. She could not believe that Pickles didn't call the names of the dogs.

Poor Barney, he lives with such uncaring people. Some people should just not be able to have a pet.
