Tales from the trenches -- Bailing on the GOP.
A friend of mine has been an unabashed pubbie for the whole six years I've known him. Lexus and Bimmer SUV in the drive, half a million dollar home. We got into politics over the weekend, somethign which I usually avoid...which is why we're still friends. In the past, he's joked about me being a hippy liberal, all that stuff. But he's basically a good guy, and we go skiing together, blah blah. Anyway, when I mentioned Bush he got really defensive. "Hey, I'm no fucking republican! I'm not voting for him! I'm a libertarian, if anything!" This is the same guy who use to harrass me for being a liberal, all the typical lines. Now he couldn't even stand being associated with Bush!

So tonight I got this following story from another friend...all in all, it proves to me that the polls saying "close race" are entirely 100% bogus...

-----

"Someone I know just went to a GOP leadership meeting.
A good portion of the members there were talking about how their kids weren't going to vote for bush. These GOP members discussed "Their Kids" complaints about Bush.

With the GOP bylaws as they are, these people are pushed to endorce only the GOP candidates so this is the closest that they are going to get to flat out saying "Bush Sucks". BUT I guarentee the people mentioned at the meeting are NOT going to vote for Bush, GOP bylaws or No GOP bylaws.

I am Republican. What I told this GOP leader is to get it out there that a new GOP presidential candidate is required for a GOP win."

2. That's a great story.
Puts a whole different perspective that many haven't even considered.

Grazie.

6. SC - Republican stronghold?
My parents have several staunch, lifelong Republican friends in South Carolina with whom they have almost never, up to now, discussed politics. If you didn't know already, South Carolina is one of the two states, along with Texas, that Dubya would carry if he carried ONLY two states. At any rate, these two other couples who know that my folks are Democrats actually went out of their way to bring up the subject of politics in order to be able to express their disgust with the Bush Administration.

Every time I hear about voters disillusioned with their 2000 votes, it's always repentant Bush supporters who vow either to oppose him this time, or at least ride the pine. Have you heard of any Gore supporters jumping on board the Bush bandwagon? Please enlighten me, because I haven't. Point is, you're right, it's not nearly as close as we're led to believe.

By the way, this election year marks the return of the exit polling that was done away with in 2002. Assuming it's not infiltrated by the Bush Cabal, pay it close attention. If the results of the exit polls show a result at wide variance with the "official" results as tabulated by the paperless electronic voting machines, grave and sober consideration must be taken to determine what steps must be taken to preserve democracy.

7. Also consider the party loyalists
who could never admit at the country club that they'd ever vote dem. I guarantee many will be casting democrat votes once they have the chance to do so secretly. They'll just never admit it publicly. There is always some number that do this anyway, but I think this year that number will be surprisingly large, although we'll really have no way of knowing.

8. I'm in SC and I rarely see a Bush-Cheney sticker on a car.
In 2000 this area was a sea of Bush-Cheney stickers.

9. not many bush-cheney signs or bumper stickers
seen in Indiana. Do see Mitch Daniels signs (but not as many as lower profile local campaigns), but not many for the top of the ticket.

11. united in hatred
of BU$H. I know so many GOPers, or Libertarians who voted * in 2000 who absolutely despise him and his cabal and will not vote for them in 2004, whether that means staying home on 11/2...??

12. Saw an anti-Bush bumpersticker this weekend - in Arkansas!
It was a big red pickup truck with a one-word sticker on the bumper -"AmBUSHed".
