Is the Washington Post full of idiots, AKA William Raspberry?
Edited on Mon Apr-12-04 08:24 AM by trumad
Did this guy just crawl out from under a rock? Is he really that uninformed? Today's piece shows us all how awful the Washington Post has become. Here's a few snips from idiot Raspberry...

<snip>
Now, Franken is a funny enough guy, I suppose, as an entertainer. But to the extent he sees his role as countering right-wing misrepresentations with left-wing misrepresentations, my response is: Who needs him?

The answer to lies and partisan innuendo is not more lies but truth -- truth at least to the best ability of journalists to uncover it.

No, I'm not humorless. I enjoy both Bill Maher and Dennis Miller. They are funny, though often in a biting and somewhat ideological way. But they understand that they are entertainers, and they don't carry water for particular politicians.

Did he really write this.... Dennis Miller doesn't carry water for the Repukes? I'm at a loss of words over that one!

<snip>
The Franken show, as I understand the concept (I haven't been able to find it on my radio yet), is to stick it to the right the way the right has been sticking it to the left.

If that's true, then it's more than just bad journalism masquerading as entertainment.

"bad journalism masquerading as entertainment." Oh my God... I almost fell out of my chair when I read those two back to back comments... "Bad Journalisim"? "Bad Journalisim"? The stupid MOFO hasnt even heard Frankens show but yet he's writing a critical piece about it? "Bad Journalisim"? That's the fucking worst kind of Journalisim there is...writing a piece about a subject you haven't researched! "Bad Journalisim"? Hey guess what Willy...It's not on my radio dial either but I've figured out how to type in airamerica.com and click on the listen button you stupid lazy Media Whore!

Shit like this makes me sick! A guy like Will Pitt writes for a small web site like TruthOut but a lazy uninformed Ho like Raspberry writes for the God Damn Washington Post. Assbackwards if you ask me!

1. hey, right wingers never let the lack of info get in the way
of an ideological screed!

Look at Bush, he rejected all the information on Iraq because he and the neocons knew that those Iraqis would shower US troops with flowers.

You can't let facts get in the way!

3. There is no such thing as free press...
You have to buy it. Raspberry can't possibility be this stupid. He is typing a script that some corporate bigwig finds pleasing. For him this is job security.

His logic is as flawed as his facts. Dennis Miller does carry water for Bush, he even said so at the onset of his show. To suggest that Democrats should not utilize the same weapons against the Republicans that they use against the Dems is foolish.

He is worried about our national discourse, he feels we should be tame and polite. I wonder if he would even have a job today if Martin Luther King took the same approach.

Absolute effin disgrace.

5. I used to be a big fan of Raspberry.
I didn't read the article (not going to register), but this sure doesn't sound like the William Raspberry I remember.

Write the guy and tell him why he's wrong. In fact, post an email address (and the article while you're at it) and I'll join ya.

8. You're right - I sent this to him
I was reading your latest editorial but had to stop when I got to this sentence:

"The Franken show, as I understand the concept (I haven't been able to find it on my radio yet), is to stick it to the right the way the right has been sticking it to the left."

If you haven't even listened to his show, then how can you comment on it? And why should I accept your comments as valid, much less read them, since they are based on nothing?

Unlike you I have listened to his show, and you might be surprised that a comedian (like most editorialists), particularly Al Franken, CAN have valid political insights based on truths. However, unlike many editorialists, he is not afraid to call someone a liar when the only way to describe what they've said is that they lied. This is not negative, it's the way things should be, as long as it is backed up by the truth.

There - how did I do for not reading the rest of your column?
