Capt. Maureen August promised her soldiers in the 70th Engineers that she would bring them home, so she went back to Iraq after the funeral in the United States for her husband. Now she's coming home again.
Leaving behind Iraq and its painful memories

TAJI, Iraq — As she prepares to leave Iraq with her soldiers, Army Capt. Maureen August tries not to think about the last time she left the country. She doesn't want to cry in front of her troops.
It was late January. She was on a C-130 flying out of Baghdad to Kuwait, and she was one of only three passengers that night. The two others were soldiers in body bags, and one of them was her wonderful, always smiling husband, Matt. His 6-foot-2-inch body, bruised and battered from a bomb, was wrapped in a zippered container.
