4. I'm sure when it pops up again
It'll be on page 12 of the papers.

The deaths in Iraq are slowing down, and if we get Saddam... I'm afraid people will say, "who cares? we won".

Unfortunately, those who died, and the new terrorists we've created don't give ratings.

12. I agree
How dumb would our candidates have to be to let this go permenantly? Dumber than they are, I'm sure, even Lieberman.

The only way this story will end is if we find WMDs in Iraq. But I'm not sure that's on the table.

21. Nothing could hurt Hitler in that fashion, either
Looks like the Bushes have taken Media Manipulation Lessons from Granddad's Business Partners.

Goebbels v2.0 is so much more new and improved (and subtle, and designed to undo a nation with a 225-year tradition of Liberty, as opposed to a 10-year tradition of Liberty, as Granddad's Business Partners) than the original.

5. And now's the time to reach out and touch someone
August is a real dead month with Congress in recess. Get in touch with your local Congress critter, and let him or her know that the question of whether or not the administration deceived us is weighing heavily on your mind. We shouldn't be sending out our troops based on a lie, should we? Aren't we supposed to be a better nation than that? Don't we owe the truth to men and women going out to fight, kill and be killed on our behalf? Isn't the citizenry owed the truth?

7. A process is needed to keep scandals alive in the media...
Edited on Wed Aug-06-03 12:38 PM by The Night Owl
Look at the Watergate scandal, the Iran-Contra scandal, and the Lewinsky scandal... what kept those stories alive in the media was a judicial process spearheaded by government leaders. That is what is needed. Unfortunately, our Democratic leaders are too milquetoast to push for any judicial action against Bush.

In any case, all is not lost... the WMD scandals did hurt Bush's ratings and Democratic candidates can still cart out the WMD issue at any point during the 2004 campaign.

8. Sign petition urging Senate hearing on WMD
Act for Change is petitioning Senators Frist & Daschle for Select Senate Committee on WMD question. They have almost 30,000 signers - on the way to 50,000. If you want to keep this issue on the front burner, sign up. I did. :-)

9. issue is percolating, not boiling
I don't watch the media but I do not agree the story is gone. You have to look at it from the media's POV--they need some new angle on which to hang a story. In the Clinton setups, you had an entire committee guiding this thing, making sure there was some new salacious bit every few days. We have nothing like that.

But you can be sure that Iraqi resistence is cooking up something that will not be good for the chimp.

You can be sure that regular neglect and a total lack of comprehension for what the priorities are is working against the chimp. Hey, he is on vacation while unemployment continues to soar and white collar jobs are being shipped out by the thousands.

The antiwar movement has launched a new campaign to focus on the warmonger profiting. This will keep the story in the news and in the right way.

You can be sure all of these elements will act to blow up in his face on a regular basis until we trounce him out of office in '04.

10. The "Bush went to war based on a lie" story has run it's course.
If a newsroom wants to maintain healthy "ratings", they have to constantly come up with NEW stories or NEW information on old stories. If they keep repeating the same things over and over and over without giving out NEW information, people will tune out, their ratings will plummet, and newsroom executives will lose their jobs.

So, since everyone on planet earth has heard at least one person from our party say "Bush lied about Niger and WMD", the media has moved on to the next NEW thing. The only way the "Bush Lied" story gets back on the news is if something new surfaces.

Just my two cents . . .which is probably worth a lot less than that.

11. The reason it's on the back burner is because of that...
"we will soon release a report that will show Iraq had a WMD programme" crap that came out last week. The media are waiting to see if this report really does show evidence of a programme, because they don't want to look stupid if it does. Of course the Bush admin knows this, and that is why they pulled this stunt. Near the time that the report is supposed to be released, they will say that they have to review it to ensure that no information that could endanger National Security is included and this will delay the release.

They'll keep doing this until the press either gets sick of waiting, or gives up. Then they'll release the report. Of course the report will show nothing that justifies the war, and the media may even pick up on it, but by then the story will be so "old news" that it will have lost its drive, and it will likely just fade away.

13. The length of the story is not indicative of its damage.
Serious permanent damage has been done to Bushco. The only reason he even came close to beating Gore was the trust issue.

He convinced a lot of Americans they could trust him. Those same people know better now.

14. Gay Marriage, Episcopalian Bishop, Kobe Bryant...
... it's like the "Killer Shark" late-summer stories that preceded September 11, 2001.

Boy, our Dems sure are tough cookies who are concerned about national security and faulty intelligence, huh? Hope they're enjoying their recess as much as Chimpy is enjoying his brush-clearing in Crawford.

Disgusted again,
Jennifer
